Hi Rachael.  Thanks for your PM.  I got notification by email but now cannot retrieve the PM on this site???  I've never got a PM before so am completely clueless, hence the reason I'm not sending one back.  Sorry mate!  Anyway, just wanted to pop on before you leave for hols and wish you and your lovely family a happy holiday and Xmas break.  Try to take a holiday from the site too, if you can.  Sometimes I think worrying too much about sleep issues can be exacerbated even more when we analyse them too  much  ;)  xo

Hey rachael, just wnate dto share something with you. We just got back form a 3 week vacation back home in India and this wa sone of the bets vacation and DS slept like a dream, mainly because I did not expect him to do anything IWKWIM, I took his sleep clues for everything naps, wake times absolutely everything. I knew getting back would be a challenge especially with teh 12 hr tiem difference, so I just let the vacation be as it was meant to be and I promise you he slept like a dream most nights.

Now that I am back I have become the same controlling freak so its a bit hard to be easy but try and forget BW rules and norms for your vacation and let Maya lead the way.

I hope it works for you as it did for us.

Hi Mukta, when we were away earlier on in the year Maya slept the best she ever has, we were getting 12-13 hrs at night even if she missed her nap prob is to do with being more relaxed but i think also because we were in same room. xxx

Before we went away last July ds had spent 6 months doing Ew of around 5 am. On 2 naps. The flight messed up his schedule so much that he ended up doing a late wake up the first morning at 8 am, unheard of and went straight to one nap. He then for the 3 weeks of our hols proceeded to sleep between 12 and 13 hours per night with a 2 or 3 hour nap during the day............ it almost tempts me to move back home cos he certainly hasnt slept as well since and went back to almost his old ways... Enjoy your vacation

Happy New Year everyone! We had a great holiday and just got back this morning, Maya fared pretty well with her sleep while away, we threw all caution to the wind and went with the flow, some days she was extra crabby but we had some lovely lie ins partly due to the fact she was going to bed really late although she did fall asleep in her pram most nights which was good which hubby is really happy with as he has been saying for ages she should go to bed later! however the main reason this worked so well imo was she was sleeping with us OMG!!!! which allowed us to deal with any nw or ew with just patting back to sleep it worked a treat so we all got some good nights but am not looking forward to retraining her again now we back home.  OT did set in really bad after a wk and she could not get past 30 mins sleep all night she woke but with her being in our bed it was easier to deal  with , while away anyway, and she was really good with the time difference to, i guess it does not hurt to relax a bit occasionally i know we all benefited from it, just might need some assistance putting it right!!
love to all,
Rachael

Hi Rach, just wanted  to jump in, Happy New year!! Just read through your post and want to try to help if I can. Firstly, I really think that when you have a chronically bad sleeper, you do whatever works...I know I did so if the co-sleeping thing works for you guys, go with it, give yourselves all a break...you can try to fix it later and you can 'jusitify' it if need be by saying that Maya is a worse sleeper than most at her age and that is obviously what she needs for whatever reason so it's fine.
Secondly, my DD was a really bad sleeper and after months of fretting over OT OU, earlier bedtime later bedtime, etc (you get it right!?) I thought enough is enough, i will put her on whatever shedule I wanted her to be on and ignore all wakeup times. So for istance wakeup 6.30 or 7 am then nap at sme time as DS so 12.30 ish and then bedtime around 7- 7.30, she was really really OT for a week or so due to NWs and short naps but after that she fell into the routine, possibily out of exhaustion, I don't know but it worked.

One thing I wanted to ask: how do you deal with NWs...what do you need to do?
