How is your house set up with all your toddlers toys?
« on: September 09, 2007, 02:41:43 am »
Just wondering how your house is set up with all your toddlers toys?

For example:  Do you have lots of toys in the living/family room?  Do you have a playroom?  Do you put a lot of the toys in their bedroom?

Right now:  I converted my dining room into the playroom (which is the very first room you see when you walk in), it has a kitchen, tool bench, train table, and some other small toys in it.  On the wall you see when you walk in, has a nice organizer with bins in it (neutral color, that you cannot see through).  I keep it clean also.  Then in the living/ family room I have a kids size table and chairs, car track, trucks, pack n play and swing (for the new baby).

My son jsut turned 2 years old and is very sensitive and gets overwhelmed easily.

Just wondering how your house is set up and how you have all your toddlers toys?

Thanks, Wendy

Hi Wendy!  :)

I tend to be a bit on the obsessive side so thankfully we have a family room downstairs (the basement) where DH and I mainly hang out and watch TV (the cats have even made it their designated area  8)) . Thankfully it is a decent size so the other half of it is DD's playroom (I used to keep her playpen and swing down there as well when she was an infant/baby) and the other half is more like the adult area. On the main floor, her other toys (which are minimal since most of them are downstairs) are kept in her bedroom closet & in designated fabric boxes. I use these box of toys to keep her entertained when we are watching TV or hanging out on the main floor. Her stuffed animals are kept in what was her moses basket in her bedroom which also serves as part of the decorative charm to her bedroom. Some of her books ( the bigger ones are in the play area) and the board books as well as her CDs are kept in designated fabric boxes as well in her bedroom.

Our kitchen, meals area, family room and games room are all open plan.
DD has all her toys and her table and chairs set up in the games room and in the family room we have a built in entertainment unit and at the bottom under the tv are 2 shelves which house her books she reads alot of the time.
DH is very upset her had to give up his games room but i promised him once the kids are in school and will have all their toys in their room he can have it back and get his pool table

Our house is very open but has 3 levels. Top floor is playroom and bedrooms. Playroom is where nearly all the toys go. There's a train table, reading benches, and lots of baskets for storage. There aren't many toys in Tyler's room, mostly just books and the odd quiet toy he's allowed to take to bed. The main floor has our living room and kitchen. There are 2 baskets of toys with lids on them. I hate having toys all over our main living space, so there are 2 baskets with lids on them (1 for each kid). The rule is that the lid has to fit on the basket...if it doesn't, there are too many toys and something needs to go to the playroom. We had DD's swing and exersaucer in the living room back when she used them. Our basement is finished and only has a handful of toys in a basket, mostly loud things that I can't stand having anywhere else in the house.

Mine sounds A LOT like AC's set up!

currently, we have all of the kids toys in the living room.  They seem to migrate the the rest of the house though.  I do not allow toys in the kids bedroom.  I believe a bedroom is for sleeping not playing.

We are in the process of turning our garage into a play room, main entrance (we currently don't have one, but enter through the garage), 2 bedrooms (this will give all three kids their own rooms) and a much needed storage room.  I don't have any place to put our stuff at the moment so our bedroom is also a storage room right now.

I can't wait for all of this to be done.  This coming week the drywaller will be boarding and the following week will be mud and tape.  Then I can start to paint, yea!!! then flooring and then move in yippie!!  We should be done in about 4-6 weeks.

I'm sorry, way more info than you were after.

we have a conservatory which is our play room all the toys, books, kids dvd's/video etc are in there and we don't allow toys in any other room, both boys have their own box and we have a huge bookcase ,tvvideo combi and a dvd player and stereo out there as well the stereo is on most of the timethey are in there, but the tv is rarely used, they spend most of their time outdoors and the shed is full of bikes, tractors and stuff as well.

I guess I should have mentioned I have an very open floor plan also.  When you walk in the door, it is a foyer and to the right is the dining room (now playroom), straight ahead is the living room and the kitchen.  Pretty much all open.

I do have a bonus room above the garage, which I wish could be the playroom, but my husband works nights, so we turned that into a theater room (blackened the walls), and we have a projector and big screen for movies in there and of course his bed.  I also do keep a few toys in there.

I am also a very organized, neat person and I stress everyday with my house looking like a toy factory.

I tell myself that I guess this is the way it has to be until the kdis are older, but sounds like it really does not have to be????

All of our bedrooms are upstairs also.

In the living room (which is a very good size) also has our fireplace with Tv above it (built in), couch, huge chase lounge, recliner and coffee table.  There is still room to walk and play.

I just hate the fact of all the toys when you first walk in the house.

Thanks for all the in put.  I was going to move a lot of the toys to his bedroom, but I was scared he would play and not sleep.

Thanks again

We have a very small house and DS's room is upstairs.  We have a big toy box that has all his toys piled in there.  He has a few toys and books in his room, but majority of his toys are upstairs.

It can end up looking a huge mess, but we don't really have anywhere else to store them.  :-\
