Umm, let's see...
At daycare, 30-60 minutes usually.
At home, 2-3.5 hrs   :o  Yesterday I think it was closer to 4, but for all I know she was reading in her crib for a while after she woke up.
Bedtime is 7:30/8:00.  Time to sleep varies, usually up at 6:45-7:15ish.  Tends to sleep in on Sundays until 8ish.   8)

Hi Jenn!!!

So after waking around 7:05 today DD fell asleep for her nap around 12:25 or 12:30. I had planned to wake her at 2:15 - when I went to do that she was already mostly awake so that was cool! Will see what tonight brings...

After reading all of the responses I can honestly say I am SO jealous that you all have such solid sleepers. Isabella (25 months old) hasn't slept through the night since June. She had a nasty canker sore virus in her mouth and it threw her sleep all outta whack. Now, she's restless, anxious and wakes during the night, EVERY NIGHT, at least once. I'm so tired.

She has one nap between 12:30 and 2:30 everyday and she's in bed asleep by 8pm. She'll usually wake once between 2-3am and then go back down until shortly after 6am. She's not even getting 10 solid hours a night.

I truly am at my wits end and I'm looking for advice...come one, come all...

Linda, I think I might have given you advise in the past :). You might want to try cutting her nap to 1.5hrs & put her down for the night at 7pm (so she is asleep at 7.30pm). When she wakes at night you might want to try wi/wo rather than give her a bottle (from memory she has a night bottle???) & just stick with it. The sleep problems won't go away until she is sleep trained.

Thank you! Yes you have given me GREAT advice in the past. I was thinking about shortening the nap....getting her to bed by 7pm is SO hard. That would mean the bedtime routine would have to start at 630 and we haven't even had dinner yet! We don't get home until almost 530 so it's always rush, rush, rush.

WI/WO...PU/PD....tried it, tried them OVER AND OVER AND OVER! She screams and cries and carries on. Now that she's not a "baby" anymore, CIO hasn't been working. When I walk out she is hysterical. I'm really at a loss, I feel like a total failure. She was sleeping SO well until that nasty virus and now I have no idea how to get it back to where it was.

Last night when she was awake between 3-4am, as I sat in the rocking chair, rocking her, I bawled...I felt like such a failure. Why does everyone else's child sleep except mine?

We get 12 hrs at night (7-7) and (usually) 1.5 during the day. Some days we will only get 1 hr and some days 2 hr naps.

I'm praying that the good sleep will last until we get our new lo sleeping well!

Linda, don't beat yourself up about this... you're not a failure & her sleeping poorly is no reflection on you as a parent. This could have happened to anyone & its only natural for them to get sidetracked after illness & us to respond by accidental parenting is just human nature. Its just a matter of realising that now she is ok & not sick & probably doesn't need your help so much & she's ok to go through sleep training.

I really want to help you & if you want we can continue this post on your previous post (the one about meds). Tell me how do you respond to her at the moment when she wakes every 2hrs. Do you rock her every time? Tell me how long have you tried wi/wo or pd for? If you try something for 1hr & give in, then thats not really sleep training... it only sends mixed messages.

You really need to give something a go for 2 weeks at least to see some improvement. There will be lots & lots of tears & its not going to be easy.

Your child is NOT the only one thats not sleeping. We have all gone through this at some stage or another. I just went through something rocky about a month ago when my perfect sleeper went from sleeping all night to needing me by her side all night & not sleeping during the day. Sarah (the Gen sleep mod) rocked her lo to sleep for 18months... Mari (my previous co-mod) used to be up with her lo feeding bottles up to 4-5times per night; DavidsMomma just recently weaned paci from her lo cause she was up re-plugging all night... i'll see if I can dig up some old posts to motivate you ;D

I know you can do this!  :-*

I'm back... found what I was looking for ;D

Hi Linda - Layla has given you some great advice and hope it helps!

As for us, DD was out around 8:15 or 8:20 last night. But I went back to sleep after DH left for work at 6:15 and she woke me up with a sharp sad Mommy at 6:50 (which means she must have woke before that). So the 1 hour 45 minute nap (from which she woke herself but I would have woke her otherwise) yesterday didn't do the trick. And she's tired and cranky now. Not sure if it was a nap issue and/or the fact that she was in pajama shorts because it's so humid (and shse always sleeps in light pants) and/or her teeth or something.

Figure I'll put her in around 12 for her nap. If she falls asleep by 12:15 should I let her sleep a full 2 hours or still wake her after 1 hour 40-45 minutes?

At daycare naptime is 12:30ish, mine is usually one of the last to sleep.  Partly 'cause when she is there a half day I pick her up at 1 and put her to bed when we get home.  I'd go for the 2 hrs to try to battle the overtired from yesterday.

Why does everyone else's child sleep except mine?

Linda, I went through two that did not sleep through consistently until 2 to 2 1/2 yo.  That is why there is 4 1/2 yrs between mine and now my tubes are tied  :-X.  It is hard to believe that looking back dd (now 7) was my GOOD sleeper lol!  Everyone had me convinced that ds would be better and he was actually worse!

DS (who is now 30 mo) will regress after illness also. Have you tried GW instead of wi/wo.  Start either sitting or even laying next to her bed for a few nights until she goes to sleep, and then start moving towards the door a little more each night?  I even spent many nights on the floor next to ds crib.  It just gets too tiring and with a full time job I just had to get some sleep but I just did not want to bring him to our bed.

Also, for the most part I know ds will go back to sleep quicker for dh than me. Lil' bugger  ;D!  Not sure if you have a partner for some help, but if you do maybe they will have better luck.

My lo is 2 and 4 months, he still has an hour to 2 hours, usually 2 hours in the day.  Yesterday he had 30 minutes at 2.30, got woke up by something, he went to sleep at 7.45 and slept until 7.30, almost 12 hours... saing that we have MAJOR sleep issues here, he wakes up every single night without fail and gets into my bed, the night before last he was awake for 2 an a half hours!! Usually he gets in an goes straight back to sleep but he has an itchy rash at the mo which kept him awake.... We AP him to sleep, its a nightmare but I am just to tired at the mo to deal with it, I keep saying 'when Im less tired Ill sort it' but I doubt ill ever be 'less tired'!! Its going to have to happen soon, I need him in a good settled routine ready for when the baby comes.... :-\

So Ive been thinking of shortening nap times, usually he has around 2 hours in the day, no more but sometimes up to an hour less, he then sleeps 10 - 11 hours at night, ideally Id like an hours nap and 12 hours at night WITHOUT waking up!! LOL

Ill be watching your thread closely!! Good luck xxxx

Thanks Layla!

What I've been doing is giving her a bottle when she wakes. This helps her go back to sleep VERY quickly. This however, only happens if she wakes ONCE. I WILL NOT give her a bottle everytime she wakes. THe other times I HAVE to rock her or she doesn't go back to sleep. Numerous nights I've tried laying next to the crib with my arm in touching her so she knows I'm there. It gets numb, she just doesn't go back to sleep.

I am not a person who does well on no sleep. I'm a teacher and I cannot function with no sleep. I think if I was home during the day I'd be more receptive to WI WO and PD methods that can continue for HOURS into the night but the truth is that I can't listen to the crying for hours and then work the next day.

If I walk out, she screams her head off. It's not crying anymore, it's high pitched screaming. This continues for HOURS!!!!!! I can't listen to it, I just can't.

Linda
