Not very comfortable and my coccyx is still bad from my pregnancy  ::)

I let him sleep too long at lunchtime today, 1.30-3ish so he's only just gone to sleep at 8.40.  I should be cooking dinner now but if I try to escape downstairs too soon I'll be back to square one.  I'm thinking of making a cardboard cutout of myself to put outside his door  ;D

LOL Kelly... DH used to leave his shoes so Jalyn could see the tips of them, then he would sneak downstairs  ;)

Great idea Rachel!  I'm torn between sitting outside his door for another day then trying to get him used to us just going and shutting his door and sticking where we are which isn't all that bad!!  I know I want to do the first but I can't imagine it working out at the moment, how do I convince him we're not abandoning him without him having to physically see us?  Before Nate I would reassure him over the baby monitor but that's now in Nate's room, perhaps I should borrow it back and see if that does the trick again.  Any ideas?

Sounds like you are doing great Kelly.
We are going through SA at the moment but only at nap time. I think DD knows that baby is coming and i will be leaving her for a few days.

I tried it a while ago but will try again and make a bigger deal of it, also use the monitor and perhaps put the Thomas cushion on the chair in front of the computer and show him so he understands I'm not far away.  Awake at 6.30 today which isn't too bad but he's sobbing for me within moments of waking  :'(

Z as at nursery and about to put N down for a nap so going back to bed to catch up on some zzzzz!

No need  ;D ;D ;D

I picked him up from nursery and knew he was tired so decided to go for it.  I showed him where the Thomas cushion is on the chair in the study and told him I'd be right next door whilst he went to sleep.  I also gave him one of my nightshirts (it has Winnie the Pooh on it - thought he'd like that and DH hates me wearing it!!) and told him that when he's in his cot and mummy's just next door to remember that I love him and that I gave him my nighty to cuddle - you words, thank you!  I can't say he's particularly interested but it's in there.  I also put the baby monitor in there.  I think he cried for 10 minutes but the entire time I was talking to him, I told him I was right next door on the Thomas cushion (I didn't mention it to begin with but once I did he definitely understood better and calmed more - I am on it too, it's comfortable for my coccyx!!), it's time to rest and lie down quietly in his cot, mummy loves you mummy gave you her nighty to cuddle etc etc and very suddenly after 10 minutes it went quiet and he slept.  I woke him at 3pm because I didn't want him to nap too late so he only had about 45 minutes' sleep.

Tonight we did a really long wind-down, I made sure we had stories and cuddles and songs on our bed then we read another short story once he was in his cot and I left the light on a little for him.  After I left he didn't cry but he started a short while later.  I thought I was in for a long haul but he cried for literally 30 seconds whilst I reassured him over the monitor and it's been quiet ever since - it's 7.10pm  ;D ;D :o :o

I'm so pleased, I'm going to look on Ebay for another monitor because this has also worked for him in the past.  I don't like that I can't hear Nathaniel at the moment.

****Happy Dance*****

Oh yeah, I bought a timer for the socket in his room yesterday and I'm going to get him a little Thomas bedside lamp.  I think he may be scared when he wakes in the morning in the dark so I'm going to set it to come on - I haven't decided on a time yet but probably 6.30am which I think is reasonable after a 7pm bedtime!

Thanks Michelle.  I am so lucky with Nate, he's absolutely brilliant and is perfectly happy to have a quick cuddle then be left awake in his hammock to drift off to sleep.  We are truly blessed  :)  Ultimately, this hard work will pay off, much easier than having to sit outside Zander's bedroom door until 9pm each night!

Weeeeell - didn't hear a peep until 7.10 this morning when I was just about to wake him anyway and he did start to whinge a bit but definitely didn't wake up crying/sobbing as he has been.  I think it helped to keep his light on dimmed so he woke up with his room the same as when he went to sleep iyswim.  Went down for his nap at 1pm with just 1 or 2 short reassurances over the monitor.

I love your ticker Natasha, can't wait to see the updated version!

For the first time in ages Zander woke this morning and chatted to himself in his cot, I led in bed smiling  ;D  He was even happy to be left at nursery this morning, it's like he's feeling more confident and secure in general  :)
