Diagnosing night wakings
« on: October 18, 2007, 18:36:46 pm »
I have tried to start a thread like this about a year ago (maybe more!) but it never stuck. Now with anoth er LO and night wakings it really think it could help people...i'm thinking a flow chart type where we outline main cause of NW to help new parents run through a checklist to rule out possibilities to the cause of the NW...does that make sense?

FOr example:
growth spurt...hunger
developmental issues
teething
not going to sleep independently
SA
and so on...if someone feels confident to write out a similar list, can they do so and ask fo rit to be stickyed?
i really think it would help a lot of people...having said this, I have no idea why DD wakes all night :P

i have noticed my DD wakes a lot at night if her routine needs to be adjusted.  either she is taking too long of a nap, sleeping in too late in the morning (getting too much night sleep).

another big reason is being OT.  if she's OT when she goes to bed at night, we'll have at least one NW.

there have been a few times in the past 20 months where we'll have NW for weeks but i can't figure out why. then they stop.  i guess that goes along with developmental issues.  i know something is going on in her little mind but i don't know what or how to fix it.  so i just wait it out and then things go back to normal for another fews months until the next crazy time.

i recommend a book having to do with the various fussy stages LOs go through their first year.  i can't remember the name though.  it really helped me out.  does anyone remember that book?

Sounds like a great idea...

There's already this in the FAQs section - https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=52878.0   and this https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=53450.0

Not as elegant as a flow chart  :)  but does this cover it, or did you have something else in mind?

Michelle,
Are you talking about one of those answer the questions and follow the arrow type charts, often seen when you google some weird illness or bug bite?

Ooohhh, that would be interesting and helpful.  Maybe we can think on that cause I feel like it might be a "project," but worth it.

When you first suggested it Michelle, I tried for weeks to put something together.  Obviously I never finished.  ::)  I think I was overthinking it. It became really convoluted, and there was always a "but" for everything too. Not that I think it's impossible or not worth doing, but I just wanted to point out that it's hard to quantify all the factors.

Jessica, do you still have what you put together?  I think it is an interesting idea. Obviously it won't have everything but maybe we can try to work on it together?
Let me know.

Also happy to help obviously - have been mulling this through in my mind and think it would be a really good "project"!

:-\   I'm not sure if I still have it. It was on my work computer and it's been replaced since then. I'll have to do a search.

Michelle,
I do think it is good to narrow the reasons like you have, otherwise you will get into too many things.

I am willing to help as well, just let me know.
