We moved to a new house yesterday and thought that as Max was getting to big for his cot that we would get a bed and bc we would have some disturbed nights bc of the move we might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone and put him in the bed, Well I didn't expect much yesterday as he was completely out of routine but tonight, he just wouldn't let me leave him. If I left the room he got up crying and came to the stairs, so I had to sit in the doorway to his room until he fell asleep. I'm hoping that when he gets back on track and used to the change he will be ok and go to bed as well as he always has, my question is, is there anything I can do to help him with the change? did anyone elses LO have a problem with the change over? how did you handle it?

TIA

I know it may be a bit late, but is it possible to put him back in the crib for nights and only use the bed for naps or cuddles just now? It seems all very sudden, maybe he will respond better to a slower transition?

Hi, I'd suggest not changing him from a cot yet, as moving house is such a big thing for them he might find comfort in as much of the same as before as he can get.  If he's still comfortable in his cot, he might go a bit longer in the cot.

BTW, Congrats on your new ticker   ;)

I agree with pps. I'm just about to switch Luke to a big bed - the way I was going to do it is the same as Steffi suggested - put the bed in his room and get him used to it - cuddles, naps etc and put him into his cot still for nightimes.
I think what with the house move at the same time, it's alot for Max to take on board at once, alot of unfamilarity - he may feel more secure staying in his cot for a bit until he gets used to seeing his bed in his room etc.

{{hugs}} and congrats too on expecting another bubba!  ;D

Steph
bit of a late reply to this.My feeling is putting him back in his crib would be best as the house move will have really unsettled him.

if thats not possible then i would do something like gradual withdrawal from the room until he feels comfortable in his new room.

Well yesterday at nap time I told him I would just be in the next room and I was moving some stuff around so he could hear me and he only got out of bed 3 times, I managed to go down stairs when he was still awake and then last night, I stood completely out of his room in the hall and he couldn't see or hear me, He got up once so I put him back to bed told him it was night nights time and left again and thats where he stayed all night until 8:30 this morning  :o I'm so proud of my little guy, but I knew he would like a bed as he thinks its brilliant he can come and climb into bed with us in the morning and he loves that we can lay together and read stories, fingers crossed he carries on like this.

that's great news!  might as well keep it up then.  I was going to say, as long as you're OUTSIDE the room, if he needs a little reassurance now and again, that will wear off.

I am trying to get out of the room :P

Michelle-thanks for asking. Don't want to hijack the thread though.  cole was sleeping through over the summer, although bedtime was (and still is) late (10pm-7am).  I am holding his hand to sleep but was willing to accept this given the new found consolidated sleep!  He is now waking a few times a night (molars, BBB, who knows what ::)) and I know I need to get out of there before DS2 arrives!
