Awake time before Bedtime 2.5yrs old?
« on: January 31, 2008, 21:52:44 pm »
So for a long time Catherine was going to bed 7.30/45pm and asleep within 30mins then up for the day at 7am give or take 15mins then nap at 12.15/30pm asleep within 15mins for 1.5hrs.
Then just after christmas she was toilet trained for the day then not long after the new year she went into a big bed both have been no problems. We then also cut out her milk before bedtime so she isn't getting so much liquid.
However since the big bed and milk she has been taking up to an hour to fall asleep probably 5/7times a week. She diesn't get out of bed she sings for a little while then goes quiet just lying their. But i am finding she is getting up in the morning grumpy as she isn't getting enough sleep at night. She definatly still needs her nap otherwise she is very cranky in the afternoon.
So would appreicate some feedback as to what is going on.

TIA

Maybe the milk was a prop? Is that a possibility?

Have you tried maybe shortening her nap a little touch?

I was thinking the same thing.
I really don't want to shorten her naps she seems to do that on her own. How long is Colin napping for?

We are in a big bed and day time toilet trained even for nap.

Our day generally looks like this
7:30 wake
12:30 nap asleep by 12:45pm.  The length varies and he regulates himself.  So if he has only a 10-10.5 hour night he will sleep 1.5-1.45.  If he has an 11 hr 11.5 night his naps can be as short as 1 hr or 1 hr 10.
7:45 bed asleep by 8:30.

He has never missed a nap as he really likes his nap (so do I) he even tells me, nap time, but I know it is making his bedtime longer to fall asleep.  This is a child who was in bed by 7pm and asleep in 10 min before he hit 2 yrs.  It all started changing as he was able to start building up staying power to stay awake longer to bed.  He now needs a good 6 hours to be ready for bed. So, I can't let him sleep past 2:30 and if he did due to the nap later etc...I know I am in for an even later bed bedtime.  I'm not a fan of the later bedtime really.  I persevere it at the moment as I know it will change again. I foresee him not needing the nap in a couple months or so some days and those days he can go to bed an hour earlier and hopefully fall asleep faster like he used to. It is a bit tough though now as sometimes it brings on those short 10-10.5 hour nights due to OT and he is grumpy and then needs a long nap etc...it is a funny cycle and I don't think I can solve it for us, as I mentioned earlier he looks forward to his nap at the moment, so I will follow his lead and put up with the bedtime sing-song and blabbing that goes on in there for 40 min every night.

Natasha - if she's not waking until 7 and you don't want to cut her nap down, I think her bedtime is too early. Maybe try 8pm and see if that helps at all? Otherwise I'd cut her nap to 1 hour or 1 hour 15 minutes and see if that helps.

Natasha, how are you going?

At that age Isabella was down to 1.25hrs... & she would fall asleep around 7:45pm

Her day would look like:
6am - wake
12.30-1:45pm (occasionally 1.5hrs ::))
7pm - bedtime (but took a good 40mins to fall asleep)
