Moving DD into DS room for sleep
« on: February 24, 2008, 10:25:15 am »
Please feel free to move this if I have posted in the wrong place.

DD has started having some night wakings where she wakes up and babbles / shouts to herself for a long time.  She is sleeping in our room, and of course this affects our nights sleep.  She does not cry at all, sometimes fusses, but usually just chats.  We try to get her back to sleep so that we can have a decent night, but she seems to be waking more and more  :-\

I was thinking about moving her cot into DS' room.  The only problem is he is scared of the dark and sleeps with a lamp on.  The lamp is not very bright, but does provide a bit of light in the room.  Do you think this would affect her night time sleep at all?

Your views would be appreciated.

TIA

Paula

Bumping up for you.
What sort of light is it? Where is it in the room?

my brother put a blacklight in his DD room.  could you put something liek that int here???  it probably wouldn't effect her quite as much that way.

I really like Stacy's idea.  Are they going to have to share a room long term?  If so, then that would be great to go ahead and do and then you could decorate one side for DS and the other for DD.

If you can't do that, I really don't think the light would affect her.  Tyler goes to sleep everynight with his lamp on and then I cut it off when I go to bed.  He also wakes up about 1:00 and then again around 5:30 in the morning and does the same thing.  You hear him in his room laughing and "talking" and then he goes back to sleep.

Bumping up for you.
What sort of light is it? Where is it in the room?

It is a normal lamp with a night light bulb in it.  I have put Abi's cot behind the door so the light does not affect it that much, but she still woke up and chatted for nearly an hour.  She started getting louder and louder, so in the end I brough her back into her cot in our room and she settled back to sleep.

my brother put a blacklight in his DD room.  could you put something liek that int here???  it probably wouldn't effect her quite as much that way.

I have looked up black light on the internet.  I have seen the bulbs, but am not sure how that is going to give off any light.

My friend hung a track on ceiling and then got a curtain since her baby and hubby/her share a room. He will move into brothers room later and they may move the track there.

if the light is an issue, could you just do this?

I like that idea Stacy, will definitely keep this is mind.

I really like Stacy's idea.  Are they going to have to share a room long term?  If so, then that would be great to go ahead and do and then you could decorate one side for DS and the other for DD.

I am hoping that we will be able to find a 3 bedroom place, so this will not be an issue, but if we cannot find a 3 bedroom, this does sound like a great idea.  I like the bit about decorating one half of the room for her.

I am hoping to try and wean DS off the light, but think it is going to take a long time.  He used to sleep in the dark no problem, now he is absolutely terrified of the dark  :-*

we used something kind of like this at my inlaws the last time were there.  it worked well, the only problem we had with it was thatit was kind of hard to see braxton.  he woke up crying the first night we were there and we couldn't see anything but an outline of him and we couldn't see well enough to find or give him his paci which he couldn't find himself.  but it realy worked well to light up the floor and we had no problem moving around in the room at all.

here are a couple pictures of rooms with black lights in them.  the black lights make the room blue tinted.  certain colors will stand out but not be bright.  these 2 rooms were painted so the colors were those that stand out.  not all do though and certain fabrics and such will and wont react with them.

Paula:  Zach WILL not sleep in the dark either.  Not sure when they grow out of this or how easy it is.  We did install a light dimmer, so I can turn down the light pretty low, but I am sure it still gives off the same amount of light as the lamp.

Is there anywhere else at all, you could have the baby?  How about making a little corner in the living room or dining room (if you have one).  I just could not imagine Zach and Tyler sharing a room. Maybe once they were both asleep it would be fine, but when trying to fall asleep.

I really think the curtain idea would really work because you could hang a really thick blanket or curtain, also you could put a radio in there for her for some white noise.  Tyler falls asleep to a vucuum cleaner every night.

Melissa, that looks great.  Thanks.

Thanks Stacy.

Wendy, I don't want to put her in the lounge, because it is downstairs, and I might not hear her if she cries.

Last night was a better night.  She fussed, I went in and she was still asleep but trying to find her thumb.  I popped her dummy in and she settled quickly.

Natasha, she was in Thomas' room - when she woke at 5:00 when DP left for work (I think he woke her), I put her back in her cot in our room and she re-settled.
