We have boys, but some of the longest-running favorites here have been:

* Tonka truck (the big metal one that they can actually sit in!) - a friend of mine has a girl & this was a hit with her, too  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=tonka+truck

* Laugh'n'Learn House - both boys now play with this http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-C6327-Fisher-Price-Learning/dp/B000284X6W/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1219691394&sr=8-1

* cleaning toys - our fave was a broom/pan set

* bubble toys

* mega blocks - these were easier to put together than the Lego version.  They make them in pretty "girl" colors/themes.  ;)  http://www.amazon.com/Mega-Bloks-Building-Imagination-Pieces/dp/B000MDOYZW/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1219691505&sr=1-8

Shopping cart is a HUGE hit here too, forgot about that one. Also a huge hit with my DD is to have her own chair - so a little armchair, or a little lounge, we also have a little table and chairs set that she can eat snacks at, do crafts at etc.  She likes her own chairs way more than ours, and also uses them to reach stuff on the benches, and help us cook, and wash her own hands in the bathroom etc.

My mother bought dd the Fisher Price...My First Doll House for christmas.  She loves it and plays with it all the time.  She just turned 3.

The shopping cart is a great idea,  the one we have is a hunk of junk.  Make sure it wheels well before you buy it.  We have a store here, that we dont go to very much that has mini shopping carts.  the kids looove using them.  If you get a good one you can take it with you to make grocery shopping fun.

The vacuum was also a bust here, they like the real thing. a mini broom was a favorite though.

I'm going to have to write a list :) Thanks for all the ideas!
I like the dressing up box Katt. Wouldn't even have to buy things, just get old things we don't use. Will def do that for her even if not as a b'day present. Will also check ELC as english relatives will buy stuff too.
Mukta, I might get something like that that actually cleans. Great idea really. If she's going to clean while I do she might as well do it properly ;D
Been to a friends' in Stockholm for a few days and they had 2 strollers for their 2 girls. Lois played with it the whole time so will def get one. Just one thing... they were the cheap quite flimsy typ and the material had broken and kept coming off which really annoyed DD, so I'll try and look for a better quality so it won't break. I would have bought the same one otherwise. Will be a bit more expensive but might be worth it.
So sweeping brush, postman pat stuff, some pretend food/kitchen stuff... Cool, thanks girls! :)

We went with the cheap prams because DD needed to learn not to sit in them and break them.  DH used blue tac in where the fabric kept coming off the frame, and now it doesn't come off. Depends on your child, my DD would try to sit in a more expensive one and probably break that, if she still is into strollers in another year or so, will get her a better one.

LOL.  Zara has done some damage (but not made the prams unusable) to 2 prams already.  And still, I catch her attempting to sit in them.  No fancy expensive prams til she gives it up LOL!

That was back in April, and one of the first times she had pigtails. I think she's cute too of course, but I'm her mummy so it's nice to hear I'm not the only one ;D

Unfortunately she's come down with a cold today and has a temperature :( I can feel it coming too... Maybe I'll have to do most of the b'day shopping online from my couch ??? At least DH is back from 2 weeks in Japan tomorrow though.

We have gone through 4 baby strollers with dd.  the first two were the umbrella strollers, like pp posted, (cute pic.)  The other two were carriages they have lasted much longer...they cant sit in them.  We bought them in Kmart.  My mom has one at her house and she has one here.
