My 18 month old daughter still wakes 3-4 times per night!
« on: December 14, 2008, 15:29:10 pm »
Hi, Im new to this site, I used the baby whisperer routine with my first daughter but not the second. Due to tiredness my daughter Lucy has slept with me since birth, she has never gone to sleep on her own and every time she wakes she has to get back to sleep in my arms! As for routine she has around 2 hours in the day 1-3pm but sometimes only about 30 minutes. Any advice appreciated. Thanks Lisa

Welcome!

It sounds like, if you're ready, it's time to do some sleep training to help your LO learn to fall asleep independently.  Are you wanting to move her to her own bed at this point?

Here is a link that describes some sleep training methods appropriate for this age:  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=80750.0

Check it out and see which one seems more your style.  :-*

Let us know if you need help making a plan.  We can cheer you on as you work through this process--sleep training is hard work, but so worthwhile in the end!  :-*

Hi Twinkle, how did your little girl get to be a bad sleeper, I have only myself to blame as she has always snuggled up on my chest to get to sleep and I made no effort to get her to sleep on her own. I feel quite ashamed of my poor parenting!! My first daughter was baby whispered from day one and she is a fantastic sleeper. I am dreading staying up all night to sleep train Lucy I'm putting it off. I am very keen to know how you are getting on with your little one..maybe I will be inspired. ;)

Thanks Bethany, I'm still putting it off. I am thinking it may be easier to take a week off work so I can cope with the sleep deprivation.

That sounds like a wise plan!  :-*  She may surprise you and pick it up more readily than you expect--they understand so much at this age so you can really explain what's going on.  :-*

She was in hospital for a couple of months when she was really little and then since then she has bouts of sleeping and then not sleeping. Illness hasnt helped and tbh we usually ended up taking her into our bed just to get some sleep!!! We have now done three nights of sleeping in her room and have moved on to just going in at NW and staying in the room till either she is asleep or has turned over and is ready to be alone. She has always gone to sleep alone and generally naps really well though

Not sure what happened with my last post!
GW seems to be going ok, no NW between 11.30-7am so an improvement. We were also able to leave the room, when she did have NW, before she was actually asleep which was good. How are you getting on?

Hi Twinkle, that's great news. It gives me hope. I am moving house in January so i thought it would be unfair to start anything before then..maybe that's an excuse! Part of me likes having her cuddled in at night but she is going to have to stay at her dads soon as we are separating and I cant see him putting up with it. Anyway you must be feeling very pleased with your little one, well done to you. :)

Thanks I am thrilled  :D :D :D Last night we only had one WU at 1am and only for a few minutes (bed at 6pm and up at 6.35am)

I can understand why you want to enjoy your last snuggles and if your moving in jan it seems sensible to wait. Good luck with the move  :)

Hello,
My 18 month daughter is very similar to Lisa's and has never been a good sleeper. She goes through stages of waking 6/7 times a night! I would like to train her to sleep by herself (at the moment i bottle feed her to sleep while holding her and she needs a bottle and me to fall back to sleep when she wakes). She will sleep a couple of hours during the day but has to be coaxed into staying asleep and it's not easy. She is a (very) spirited child  - didn't need the test to know that!
I'd like to try the Gradual Removal method but not sure where to start as she currently falls asleep in my arms... how can i make the first steps? Any tips on making a plan would be most appreciated.
Thanks, Vicky
