well last night was ok, asleep about 8 and then up at 2--gave him 4oz but only watered it down to 5oz...he drank it and went back to sleep til 7:30 and woke happy

I thought I would try for one nap today at 12/12:30, so we went out to walmart and then home at 10:15 and went for a walk, I noticed that he was rubbing his eyes at 10:30 and then started crying at 10:45, so I came home and he was wanting a nap...crying, so I layed him down and he was alseep a little after 11.. maybe today is just a tired day from the night before debacle

Im going to wake him after 20 and then just watch him for those same cranky, tired signs-I think Ive been going by the clock too much-and maybe he just hasn't been tired when I have been putting him down.

well I tried at 2pm and failed!

so that was 2.5hrs on a 20min am nap--too much? too little? I have no idea.

he wasn't too cranky, just starting to get that way----he cried as soon as I put him in his crib. OT?
of course didn't settle and I tried doing wi/wo for 40min, he just cried and cried, and same thing sucking his thumb and then crying etc.
I finally just BF him til sleepy at 3--obviously not what I want to get in the habit of doing.

so I jut dont know what to try anymore..he obviously needed the morning nap this morning..maybe I should of tried putting him down 2:15 instead?

Ive been trying to wean it so that he does take more during the day....he takes a good amount during the day I thought.

he was very cranky and tired today at 10:45, no way he would have made it to 12:00, unless he was cranky becuase he was hungry--he didn't eat that well at bkfst and then ate a huge lunch..

Im fine with trying for one nap, but what do I do on the two naps days? no combo of short am nap seems to be working....

just to pop my head in.....

deb--xander has done this transition too, while having to dropoff/pickup his sis up from school.  some days he falls asleep in the car for 10/15minutes, then i just hurry home from the drop off and put him into bed.  it USUALLY works and we've only a few times had problems.  for the most part, he does it on days where he might have needed two naps (but i hate the crib nap for 15mins--so mean, lol) and it's just enough to push his nap back and  he doesn't get ot.  other days, he makes it all the way home from driving her to school and does his one nap like normal.  (btw AVery has p.m school)  i've had to live with it...no choice.  besides, school is only a few days a week, right?

there are days that if Xander falls asleep before we go, i actually give him alot of time.
but from me reading your last few pages, i can see that your guy *might* refuse the pm nap.

today, X had two naps....yesterdays nap was a total botch on my part (we're in that phase too, one nap two naps on occasion--so i think yesterday was a two nap day and not the one i pushed for) , so today i think he was making it up a bit.  he was up for 4 hrs---i let him nap for 45mins and he went  4hrs!  which, when dh is away i have to do both dropoff and pickup (maybe twice a month)...so X and i usually stay out of the house, do lunch together, a few groceries, maybe the playground...then pick sister up and head home.  drop him right in bed and he usually can get another 45mins in---then he is more than fine till bed.

how far away is your school>?  do you need to drive or do you walk him there?

i, fortunately have 15mins both ways.

stacy listened to me spaz about my situation at the beginning of January and you know what, X is 'doing' it.  somedays i'm frightened things won't work out, but he usually holds it together.

i do try to make it a special day for X and i....instead of the hassle it is.

Noah's school is maybe a 5 min drive, and then add another 5min on to actually pick him up etc.

If I could count on Cohen falling asleep for 5 or 10min in the car, thats would be great--but Im not sure he would.

Im fine with keeping a short am nap on the days Noah has school but I cant handle the screaming in the afternoon...I feel terrible..
I do think that it is UT because he did the same the other night when I tried to put im to bed at 7:45 after he woke from a 1hr nap ending at 4:45...he cried and cried.

so if I was to keep a 20min am nap--is it possible he can handle 3hrs on it? maybe I should just keep increasing that 2nd A time on a 20min nap until I find the *right*amount.
today he was obviously OT by 3:10--but I did have to wake him and that was over 3.5hrs on a 20min nap.

umm, I guess just to push that nap later and shorten the A time after nap, I mean yes I could put him to bed at 7, but will he sleep 12hrs?

there is an extra 1hr in the day with 4.5hr A times.

well, I was going to try one nap today but we had an EW...

he was asleep last night about 8:15 or 8:30,
slept through til 6am, I tried BF and back to bed but he didn't go back to sleep, so Ill leave him in his room til 7....but I do think he will need a morning nap...

whats up with this EW? too late of a afternoon nap? he slept 3:10-4::10pm.

just not sure when or for how long for the am nap today?

just wing it.

get in the car a bit early and let him fall asleep on the way to school at his natural time.  if you left earlier than normal for school, you could drive around for just a few extra mins...then at most he might be able to handle 1/1.25 awake before needing his next nap.

you don't really have a choice, i think.

well I went for a walk--at 9:20 or so, thought this would stretch him out a bit and also Im trying to start exercising...

he fell asleep  at about 9:30 :o which is VERY atypical--apparently he can sleep somewhere other then his crib...

so now Im not sure how long to let him sleep...obviously he may wake now that the stroller isn't moveing...yup woke about 10, so maybe a 25min nap in the stroller.

ll have to just watch him carefully and hope for a log nap about 1.
