I'm in shock. DS fell asleep at 1pm and slept until 3:30!!!! I don't think he's slept that long since he was a newborn! He woke up happy - talking to himself and humming - another thing that hasn't happened in ages. DH and I sat listening to him for a few minutes. We couldn't stop smiling.

So here was his schedule so far today:
A: 7:15
S: 1-3:30pm

what time should I put him to bed tonight? I'm really bad at this but if I don't hear from anyone, I'll probably do something around 7:45-ish.

6 hours A time seems like a lot for his age but he slept great. Should I try the same thing tomorrow?

Yay!!! What a good nap! I would think 7:45 would do nicely for bedtime. Not sure about the 6 hours A time if you did it consistently...did he handle it okay? Maybe try 5/5.5 and see if you get a long nap. He may have just been so OT from being up late that he really needed that nap. Oh, and it was somewhere around 1 year that Spencer would actually sleep in if we had to be up late!! If only Masyn would do the same  :P

Hope tonight goes great too  :)

Last night wasn't too bad. He got to sleep a little after 8. He had 3 NW at 11pm, 2am and 4am. At 11pm he was lying down without the paci, so I tried to give him his paci but he did not want it. At 2am he was standing with the paci in. I layed him down and he went back to sleep right away. At 4am he was standing again, no paci, so I layed him down, put paci in and he cried on and off for 15 minutes. He woke at 6:15 then my husband brought him into bed and we dozed until 6:45am. That is actually the first time he's ever fallen asleep with us. We only brought him in bc we thought he would play on the bed while we tried to wake up! :)

Is there anyone who can tell me what these NW mean? Like why does he refuse the paci sometimes?

I actually consider last night an ok night! :) we used to have so many more NW before - 3 is an improvement. Think I can get it down to 2 or 1 now? That would be so nice!

I'm going to shoot for a 12pm nap and see what I get. (fingers crossed)

Great improvements all round.  What a great nap yesterday!  So lovely he woke up happy.

I think you'll see a further decrease in the NWs once he's settled in to the one nap routine, he's just still getting used to it all.  Until then just keep doing what you are doing, resettled as best and as quickly as you can.  Is he teething at the minute?  My LO was less keen on her dummy when her wee gums were sore.

Also how long has he been standing for?  We went through a lot of disruption when our LO learned to stand, she used to do it in her sleep.  I happened to be in her room one night and I swear she sat up then stood up while fast asleep and then woke up all disorientated and cried then. Seems like some babies practice lots in their sleep too!

Keep us posted on todays nap!

Nap today was 2 hours! Whoo hoo! I'm assuming this shows that my LO can handle longer A times than most for his age?

I really didn't think we'd make it to 12pm today. DS was rubbing his eyes and yawning from 9am-10am but got a second wind that got him to noon. I kept things as low key as possible. He was so ready for his nap!

So here is his schedule so far today:
A: 6:45am
S: 12pm-2pm

I am going to try for a 7pm bedtime. Does that sound right? How long does it take most LOs to settle into a new routine? We are going away for Christmas on the 23rd... I really hope that doesn't mess everything up!

Shiv, DS has been standing for about 3-4 months. So it shouldn't be new to him anymore, right? I really don't think he's teething. I keep checking inside his mouth and all looks calm for now. However when he gets teeth it seems to happen very fast and we have a few very very bad nights.

We'll see how tonight goes!

Fab news on the nap!!!!  7pm bedtime sounds great!

If there is no teething and he's been standing for a while I think you can go ahead and assume NWs are related to routine.  Hopefully once you get him into the 1 nap day for a bit longer the NWs will subside.

The longer naps certainly do indicate he was ready for more A time!

It took us about a week to settle into one nap so I think you've plenty of time to get it in place before you have to go away. I think we had a rocky day about day 5 where the nap was really short and I had to AP a quick catnap to get us through to normal bedtime but apart from that it was plain sailing!

How'd bedtime go?

Thanks Shiv52. Bedtime went really well. DS was asleep by 7pm-ish. he went to bed without a peep! Oddly he woke at 7:45pm but my guess was that he was too hot from all the blankets on him. He was standing so I put him down and left the blankets off. He went right to sleep. Then DH accidentally woke him at 10ish trying to make sure he wasn't too cold! Haha. Men are not light on their feet by nature :). So I won't count that as a true NW :). We had a NW at 3am, DS settled after 1 PD, NW at 6:15am, I replugged, and then I had to wake him at 7:30 this morning!

I didn't set my alarm bc I fiured he'd wake me up like he always does- so that is why he "slept in" a little longer than normal. Do I shift my day forward 30 minutes or so now? Meaning a 12:20 nap, 7:30 bedtime?

I am so happy with how things are going! I'm totally shocked by it all TBH. I never would have thought DS was ready for 1 nap or even a 5 hour A time. I guess well see how the next week goes and if this is really true (then I'll know I'm not dreaming :))

Thanks for all the help so far ladies!

That's great that one nap is working out so well! and sleeping in too  ;D  I would push the nap later, and play it by ear for bedtime depending on how long of a nap he has. Hope things continue to go so well!

Oh the dreaded garbage truck - I should have remembered it was Tuesday. It sounds like a jet engine in our house when that truck rolls by. It woke DS up 1hr 20 mins into his nap. If only I didn't let him sleep in this morning he would have been getting up by now!! I'll have to remember that for next week.

He woke up happy (probably bc he loves the garbage truck and heard it!). And bc he slept so well and so long last night, I'm not too worried about OT... Or should I be? :)

I'm not sure what to do for bedtime now. Stick with 5 hours A time? Should I push till 7pm? MIL is watching DS tonight - we have another holiday dinner! I know no matter what time I tell her, he'll be in bed late but as long as I know what to shoot for so I can learn what to do if it happens again.

I'd aim for 5 hours but do wind down earlier and keep things low key.  And at maybe tell MIL bedtime is half an hour before you actually need it to be ;) and hopefully he'll settle ok.

Have fun at your dinner!

MIL said DS finally fell asleep at 7:15. We'll see how tonight goes... I'm not expecting anything great.

Next time I will tell her 30 mins earlier! Wish I got your post before I left for dinner. Great idea for the future though!! :)
