help? whats going on????
« on: April 28, 2010, 07:47:16 am »
my son is 15 months and is all over place at mo! he has been waking 2-3 times a week and not settling. he doesnt seem to want to sleep even though he is clearly tired, winging, rubbing eyes, ect.
i thought he was prob dropping a nap so he i usually go out with him in afternoon anyway in pram so we go out and he sleeps but then in afternoon still seems tired, he isnt eating much lunch and i usually have to give that to him on the move-sitting in highchair he doesnt seem interested-anyway thats another issue i guess.
if i put him in cot he wont sleep, gets very upset. i dont no what to do we have tough time in past, but things have been great for months!

he usuaaly wakes around6-7am has breakfast at 7-8am , snack around 11-12 then we go out for a walk and he sleeps around1-2 hrs usually nearer 2. then another snack when we get back ,play in garden. dinner at 5, bed at 730-8 bath every other night.
he was nap at 930-10 in cot then another out in pram around 2-3, but he seemed to drop first nap so i carried on as usual with afternoon stroll. the prob is i dont think he settles well in cot in  day now, which i guess is my fault as i carried on going out with him all time. im currently trying to lose weight and have lost 20lbs by walking alot and eating well, but i want to put him first and honestly some days i dont want to walk that much. i live with my in laws till july and statying in isnt always great i feel very down here and they arte noisey!

So what time is he having his nap? I would try giving him his nap at around 11.30, in his cot, and see if that helps him sleep longer - when he first drops to 1 nap, he really needs to sleep 2-2.5hrs at least to get through to bedtime! Also, if he's woken up at 6am I would aim to have him asleep in bed by 7pm latest.

Can you get another nap from him this afternoon then, to get you through to a decent bedtime?

yah, if he only slept 11.30-12.15, there's no way he's going to last to bedtime without getting seriously overtired.

That's pretty good, that he got some longer/better sleep today! When he's making the change to 1 nap, he's likely going to need some 2 nap days as well as some 1 nap days, to keep from getting overtired.

Yeh, I think you need to do EITHER a short 10.30am nap and a longer pm nap, OR one nap at about midday. You'll need to judge it based on how tired/crabby he is in the morning, how much sleep he got overnight, what time he woke up in the morning etc.

he woke at 6 am yesterday, put him down at 12, he stirred alot and cried once, and kept moving around alot on the monitor but he didnt actually wake till 1420, but he didnt seem happy to be up.
he went to bed at 1930 last night, stirred alot at 5-520 am, then went back to sleep woke at 750! and that was the house phone i think that woke him. i hope this means he is improving, i have been giving him less opotunity to nap in pram so he can nap better in his cot, could this be reason? i dont understand why he wakes so early though.
