Joining you as we have canine trouble too!

This bout of teething has been so different from the rest. DS has been so angry and refused lunch which is so unusual. It hasn't really affected his night sleep - just waking once for meds. Days have just been shorter a times. It has really affected his poop (sorry) - acidy and leaky and tummy aches we think. Has been hot at night but not exactly a high temp.

I read somewhere teething does not make LO's hot or cause them to have runny nappies so they should go to doc's - is that right?!

Well, we had bad nappies with teething when Ben was younger and now he gets sick if he doesn't have Gaviscon on the really bad days.  I think it's to do with the extra saliva they swallow making things more acidic.

The temperature thing, I think they can have a slightly raised temp, but teething is not supposed to give them a fever. (I think - don't quote me on it!)

Chiming back in. We were away for the weekend, and his sleep was a total disaster. He went from having 12 hour nights to about 9.5, taking two short naps during the day, ugh.

The worst is he used to play in his crib happily after a nap for long periods of time, and now he wakes up tired and crying and rattling the crib bars, yelling "all done" and "up". Last night he was waking himself up every five minutes to make sure we were there in the room, so we got him up and let him watch cartoons, and did the whole wind down again at 11pm, and he was up this morning at 7!!!!!

Anyone switch to a "set" nap time? I don't know if I already should have done this, but would it help?

Like pp said, it's not over once you see the teeth break through the gums.  It was another week or so --that's why it took so long for DS to get over it.

We had totally disrupted sleep and we were on vacation too in the thick of it.  We are still recovering from the sleep loss and the mess it made to his routine.

lamchop - looks like our boys have the exact same birthday! Same problems too :)

Anyone else getting some major SA because of canines + OT (and for us a weekend away from home). DS is just sooooo clingy to me, when I am trying to put him to bed, he lays down fine, but checks every couple of minutes to make sure I am nearby, and freaks out if I am not!

Wow, just caught up again with this thread...

We're not doing set nap times.
For some reason, we either can't make it so we have nap early, or she refuses and we have a late nap. So we're just going with the flow for the time being.

Also, this morning, BIG vomit after breakfast and a yukky nappy (sorry if TMI!).
This is a first for us! Vomiting and teething, I mean!
So I didn't take her to nursery. Temp seems fine, she had a big nap at about 10.30am and is just really tired, moany and happy to not be very active - I guess it's also lack of sleep (NW of about 4 hrs last night!!!).

We're also off our food here which is very unusual so I'm just offering her food at the usual times and if she wants it then fine. I think I'll make some chicken soup later on...

Big hugs and early nights to all!!!!!

The canines haven't even broken through the gum yet so psyching myself up to a few weeks of goodness knows what!!!!!

Irene, we also had a random vomit last week, either random or due to teething, it was around when they were starting to break through. And we have had some yukky diapers too.

Shaunna,
Thanks for sharing - so odd when it's just a vomit with no other symptoms. But I'm hoping that this means we will have the teeth soon!!!
Hope things are getting better your end!!!
:)

ahhh im another canine sufferer tagging along. weve got one cut through the gum, the other three have been bulging for about a month but no cutting.

we DID do set naps and they were working fantastically UNTIL Canines came along and he just cant make it to that time anymore, not to mention the 5am wakeups weve been having, down from the 7am wakeups we used to have, its been 5 weeks of this so far and still only the tip of the canine is through, i cant wait for it to be over!

we havent really had temps or bad nappies due to teething, only due to illness but when he hasnt been sick he hasnt had those while teething the canines. hes been off certain foods that he used to love but still drinking. weve gone back to teething rusks for some small relief for him. weve also found these homeopathic lollipops that help with sore throats, sore gums and earache so have been offering them to him as well.

I also elevate his mattress when hes teething and offer dream meds. feel like ive been medicating him for 5 weeks straight!

Quick question; are you all just letting your LOs nap as long as they want when they are teething?
Even if it messes up (an already messed up!) bedtime???

Thanks in advance!

DS's bed was permanently raised :P Just couldn't be bothered taking it back down as he didn't stop getting ill :P  He probably likes it one side higher than the other now.  :P

Irene, I would let him nap as long as he wants coz bedtime is a mess anyways!!! :P  i just gave up trying to watch how long he naps.  When he has an EW, he's super grumpy boy and after his nap, he's his happy self again.  Very clingy these days.  The bottom left should cut through very soon.  Somehow his bottom right anything always comes the last :P

DS went from three canines to four cutting through. Three have broken the surface. Last night we had a 2-hour NW, he was totally inconsolable unless he was in our arms.

Koe - he is soooooooooo clingy to me, usually he can't fall asleep while we are holding him, but now he freaks out when we set him down, so some major AP going on here, but what else can I do? We let him sleep as long as he wants for naps, goes from 1h25m to 3hours!! But if he sleeps then he must need it right now.

Anyone else feel bad about perpetually medicating?? I have been trying to alternate motrin and tylonal for the past two weeks, but feel bad about using it for so looooong! How do you ladies successfully dream-med?

Actually I haven't had to medicate too much lately (compared to molars).  But some days, I would just need to do teething gel. Once he's in DH's arms, he's fine :)

In the NWs, though, DS always asks for milk and last night I gave in because he cried differently.  Really desperate.  I know a lot of moms here advised not to give milk but if he doesn't get his milk, he would wake at 5-6 and wants milk then and not go back to sleep.  This morning, after 3:40 bottle, he woke at 6:50 HAPPY!  no crying.. just playing in his bed... for 15 mins..  I was still sleeping on a mattress otherwise I wouldn't get any sleep.

Shauna:  Yup, sounds like our boys are going through the same thing roughly at the same time.  He was super clingy all the time and though DH has been putting DS down at bedtime all his life, he would freak out when it was time to say good-night to Mommy. Any time I left the room, DS would cry out 'Mommy!' frantically even if I just walked into the other room and DH was next to him.

It does get better after the canines finally come in. I guess it is a bit like when they are sick, being all achey  ---all they want is Mommy.  DS is better now and while he does call for me every now and again when I walk out of the room, it's more random and he's back to having DH put him down at bedtime.
