Thanks, she's been great today and tonight too. I only had to pick her up once at bedtime and it took about half an hour until she was asleep so I'm hoping tonight will be similar to last night! I hope your NF weaning goes well!

Hi

We were doing pretty well, she did a 7 1/2  hour stretch the other night. We've dropped the dreamfeed for about 5 nights now and dropped NF for the last 2 nights. She woke three times last night and it took an hour to get her back to sleep at 1.30am. Is this just the day 5 regression or is it still just early days?

Hi

We're having some problems with her waking at 12.30 and 5.30 and we dont know why its happening. She settles well in her cot within five mins at 12.30 and at 5.30 she needs more help and doesn't go back to sleep properly. Yesterday she had perfect naps (2hr 15 am nap and 45 min pm nap) so I thought the night might be better. Do you think its being OT from having a long day? I'm not sure how to fix it

EWs are often OT, what is her routine like?

Wake 5.30am normally snoozes until 6.30am
Bottle 6.30
Breakfast 7.30
Nap and bf 9.45-10 (just extended A time to get a longer am nap) Hopefully nap 2 hours
Lunch 12.30-1pm
Nap and bf 3-3.30pm depending on how long am nap is. Nap 45 mins-1 hour
Tea 5.30pm
Bed and bottle 7pm

Her routine does vary though. I can rely on the am nap being at least 1 1/2 hours but the pm nap can sometimes only be 30 mins so bedtime is obviously earlier.

Does that look ok? She's still waking at 5/5.30am

Your routine looks fine, have you tried an earlier bedtime? Have you tried giving pain meds around 3am to see if it could be teeth waking her?

Is a 6pm asleep time early enough? How do I give pain meds at 3am, do I wake her up? Her teeth dont seem to be bothering her too much at the moment.

We did get into the (bad) habit of co sleeping with her when she woke at 5/5.30 am so I think shes got into the habit of going back to sleep with us. If I did pu/pd with her when she woke at that time and she didnt get back to sleep until say 6am and her normal wake up is 6.30am, do I wake her at 6.30 or do I let her sleep so she catches up on the lost sleep? I guess waking her up would mean we can stick to her normal routine and then she could have an early bedtime?

If you give meds in a syringe you don't have to wake her at all.

So is she coming in with you every morning? If she's waking at 5.30am and going back to sleep til 6.30am, that's really not an EW, it's a night waking. EW is when they start the day really early. That will definitely reinforce a 5.30am wake up. Would be your call whether to get her up at 6.30 or let her sleep in and move everything on a bit and stick to a normal bedtime.

When she wakes either me or my partner will try to settle her but it normally ends with my partner putting her in the bed next to her cot with him and she normally goes back to sleep next to him but we obviously want to break that.

Yep. It's going to be hard work because it sounds like she has come to expect it - still easier to do it now than in a couple of months time! How is the rest of the night?

The other thing you could try is W2S at about 4.30am if she is waking very close to 5.30am every day.
