Am I the only one with a 7mo who still isnt sttn????
« on: April 06, 2011, 07:13:51 am »
Hi

I'm starting this topic just for some moral support really. My gorgeous 7mo daughter still isn't sttn despite us trying many things to help her. I'm so tired of being tired and so fed up of cancelling things because I'm just too exhausted to go. It seems like EVERY mother I speak to has a child who sttn and although I don't want anyone to struggle like we are I just need to know that we aren't the only ones, I guess I'm feeling slightly lonely and isolated................is anyone else having the same problems?

My DS will be 8 months this weekend and whilst he has slept through the night on occassion it is very hit and miss and he will wake in the night a lot more than he sleeps through so you are not alone! It is so frustrating when you hear other mothers talking about how good their baby is and I wonder what am I doing wrong!!

Hi

Thanks for your replies. I do question what I'm doing wrong. She is so unpredictable even though she has a good routine that we always stick to, I just don't know what she's going to do at night. And hearing other mums talk about how they could set their clock by their baby can be frustrating. I love my lo to bits but I just wish she'd settle into a bit more of a pattern at night so that I could get some rest!!

What is your EASY? Maybe something you can tweak? I have posted another post because I wonder if my DS is having too much daytime sleep because on the rare occassion he has sttn he's had very little day time sleep but this goes against BW!!

It's all so confusing!

Hi

I'm very confused too, we're the same with the sttn - she did 9.30 till 6am when she'd had no afternoon nap! Now that we've finally got two, hour and a half naps the nights have got worse!

Our EASY is normally this:

Wake 6.30
Breakfast 7.30
Nap and bf 9.30 (normally an hour and a half but today it was 30mins, no idea why)
Lunch 12.30-1
Nap and bf 2.30 (we have just got her to do an hour and a half after extending her A time, previously it was 40mins)
Tea 5.30
Bath 6.30
Bed and bottle 7
Df 10

I just don't know what works anymore!

What happens at night, does she wake randomly to feed?

She usually wakes about 9/9.30 (this hasn't changed since shes started napping an hour and a half in the afternoon so could this be habit? She settles with a quick cuddle if settling in her cot doesn't work) then on a bad night she'll wake again at around 12.30 and again I do pu/pd which usually works but then she woke again at 1.15 last night so I fed her and she went back to sleep until 2.30. I gave up looking at the clock after that but then I fed her again at 4.30 because she wouldn't settle. I'm not sure why she wakes. Sometimes she gets stuck on her tummy although I know she can roll back onto her back so I'm not sure why she cries out.
On a good night she wakes around 3am has a bf straight back to sleep until 6.30ish.
It's been different every night for a while now and we haven't had a good night for a couple of weeks. I thought the improved napping would help but the nights seem to have got worse??????

It was the same with my guy. He finally started sleeping through when I put the stops on all night feeds.

Maybe I'll try that then, I guess it was tough for a few nights? And by 7 mo and being on 3 solid meals a day and with a df she shouldn't need milk at night, should she??? I really need to sort it out for my sanity! I can't think that there's anything wrong with our EASY?

I stopped all night feeds at 6 months with DD and she still didnt STTN until 9 months and even then would have the odd bad night here and there- I think some kids STTN early and others dont- just like some walk and talk far earlier than others. I had all my fingers and toes crossed for a sleeper when I had DS but no such luck- he is 6 months and we are still waiting for a full night or even something close

My guy was a little older. Yes it was tough for a couple of nights but really only the first night was bad. The second night was better and I was still up less frequently than I had been.

I stopped night feeds when my DS was about 6 months and still it's hit and miss if he sttn (very rare in fact!) Perhaps it is just a case of each child will d when ready?! Your EASY looks very similar to ours and I don't think there is anything that needs changing?!

Thanks, I'll see how tonight goes and think about dropping night feeds. She's had half an hours sleep all day, I have no idea what went wrong so we'll see how the night goes. Last time she did this she slept 8 1/2 hours straight! Not that half an hours sleep is good for her but could 3 hours a day be too much???

Sending you lots of hugs. I understand exactly what you're going through. My DS didn't sleep through until he was 13mths. He was still being BF at least once during the night. I stopped BF at 13 months and hey presto he slept thorough after 3 nights. Making me think it was definitely habbit. He can still be hit and miss at 2yrs, but the majority of the time he STTN. Your LO will get there in time. Xx
