Mucous poops are back...GP today. What to say?
« on: April 28, 2011, 19:15:31 pm »
Dylan is almost 7 months now and we are winding down the BF'ing now. She is having 2 x bottles of formula a day and eating solids like a champ. She is still on the breast 3 x a day though and once in the early morning.

For the past 3 days we have had really explosive mucousy poops and horrendous wind. I had questioned intolerances when she was a tiny bub but never went down the road of ED but did however really cut back on my dairy intake, although not dairy free.

I dont really know what to make of this. Am I worrying over nothing? Could it just be the solids causing her wind which is causing the mucous poops?

It could be intolerances, it could be teething, it could be a bug etc. If it has been 3 days I would monitor it a few more days before taking any foods out.

Still mucousy poops. Although some worse than others. Her skin on her face cleared up in the last 3/4 weeks ( being in the sunshine perhaps?) but her body has got worse. Same old patches but just flared up and looking a wee bit angry. I've not changed washing powders but we do have a new washing machine and have moved to a different part of the country so perhaps the water? (clutching at straws here!)

I dont know what to make of it really. She's OK in herself aside from the gas giving her a wee bit of gip.

OK, so mucous for a week now? Did she have it before or just this week? Eczema flaring up and increased wind def means a reaction for us. Is she on a hypo allergenic formula?

Nope just regular formula. Been doing the FF for a couple of months now and added a second one in less than a week ago. Started solids 3 weeks ago.

I just dont know. I went through this when she was a teeny bub and concluded it was my oversupply at the time ( explosiveness) coupled with her run of snotty illnesses ( mucous). OS is not an issue now for sure hence the FF as I am struggling to maintain supply.

You know what puts me off thinking about it? Trying to get a bloody GP to listen when she is perfectly happy otherwise kwim? It would seem pointless to me to cut dairy out of her diet when she is getting it loads in her formula kwim?

I think intolerance COULD flare moving from one to two bottles FF per day though? Could you try hypoallergenic and see if it makes a difference?

I was going to say that Shivi - too much of a coincidence adding the 2nd bottle and the mucous flaring? What do you think emma? Does it co-incide?

Well it could be the second bottle or the solids. Started giving both in the last couple of weeks.

Perhaps I should just continue on the breast BUT my supply is just dwindling and I had made the decision to stop as I was stressing about it. Thing is she feeds as normal for her afternoon feed THEN has a bottle and guzzles it.

I hate even saying it but we are not in the best financial position atm. i dont even think we could afford hypoallergenic formula. I've heard its expensive. How bad do I feel.  :'(

Emma - if you can get your Dr to agree, hypoallergenic formula is only available on prescription so you won't pay for it. Both my two have had their reflux formula on prescription and that is available to buy - saved me a fortune :P

Don't worry Emma, if she needs it she can get it on prescription, so it's free!

Unfortunately you'll have to get the GP to agree to prescribe it first..

Mostly just fruit and veg. The last 3-4 days she has had cheese in some dishes as I start to mix things up a bit. Cauli cheese puree etc kwim? All the usual stuff really. She has weetabix or baby porridge for breakfast made up with cows milk. Just doing the same as I did with B really....

Well if it were me I would be questioning a dairy intolerance but you know your daughter better than I do! Mucous, diarrhea, wind, eczema flares... personally I would be down the docs for some HAF and taking dairy out of solids and your diet. Try it for a couple of weeks and then you will know for sure.
