ut total daytime sleep should be about 3.5-4 hours in a 12 hour day, not less
That isn't true. If I let my DD sleep that much during the day, there is no way she would sleep at night. Few babies will actually do a 12 hr night, let alone with that much napping.
at 8 mo they should for sure be on 2 naps (not 3) but usually this is 2 long naps. both my girls did do 2 long naps and sleep 12 hours at night and it is what is suggested in the BW books.
i always stayed with watching A times as well. i found the set nap thing didn't work until they were on 1 nap - closer to 12-14 mo really. before that a set nap time regardless of how long the nap was or what wake up time was etc just led to OT.
sorry to contradict some advice but just sharing what worked for me. i think i probably did have hig sleep needs babies.
it is really hard fitting BW in when you trying to work it around another child's routine. i have been there. it gets easier as they get older so hang in there. another 4 months or so and maybe you can force onto 1 nap and it will work out much better!
with any sleep training consistency is key, so whatever you decide for a schedule i think if you keep consistent with the sleep training you will see results (ie no cuddling, just stick with pupd).
we usually took a break from sleep training with teeth or illness, however we had a baby who was sleep trained already before they started teething. so we could take a break and give a quick cuddle and then get back on track after it was over. with teeth though it is never really over is it, they kind of come in constantly over a few months, or you don't know they're teething and then a tooth pops up. some people on here do continue to sleep train through teeth - just give meds and continue on.
