Blue light-gro clock
« on: September 04, 2011, 16:46:19 pm »
Thanks to BW imaayafa, I was educated on the affects of sleeping with a blue light.
I have been reading that we should not have blue lights in our rooms while we sleep b/c it will disturb sleep. Any other light other then red will interrupt melatonin and send a signal to the brain to wake up so the ability to go back to sleep is affected.

We just got a gro clock as we are trying to teach Madi to stay in her bed until Mr Sunshine comes out. Now I have dimmed this blue light to the lowest but now I am wondering if these studies are true and that is why she has a hard time going back to sleep at 6am.

any thoughts?

How long have you been using the Groclock for? What happens when she wakes up at 6am? I don't know about the blue/red light thing... sorry. It's possible I guess?

About 2 weeks now. When she wakes at 6am, she will come to my room. I take her back and sit with her but she never goes back to sleep.
I know this is all part of the 1-0 but I just thought maybe, the light was affecting her sleep.

I found this too with the groclock. I just turned the blue nightlight off completely, so as soon as the stars appear they go off, and it stays dark until the sun wakes up. works much much better for us like this! It has been a miracle thing for us, and made the transition to bbb easy peasy xx

That's interesting - since we got our groclock around a month ago ds has been waking at about 6.45am (40 minutes early) and although staying in his bed does not go back to sleep. I didn't realise you could turn the blue light off, but will certainly be trying it out.

It never affected Murray's sleep - until recently we didn't remember that you could turn the light down at all.  Didn't know that if you turn the light off completely that it would light up again when the sun came out, so may try that ... but then I like the fact that if he  wakens in the night (with Oliver crying etc) he can see that he has a while til morning).

Not heard about the blue light theory but I have read that children should have darkened room  with no night light etc but can't remember why ...
L x Having a bw break from 1 Feb 2012 - if you want to get in touch please send me a pm.  I may not be here but you are all in my thoughts xxxx (probably be back some time)

still happily married, just not counting!

Good luck - took me about 10 minutes to work it out (having reset the time and the alarm in the process... then I couldn't see what I was doing as the clock face was dark!) ::) :P

Sabs, I don't know about the colour of the light but DS used to wake up completely if there was any light.  But suddenly around 2-3 weeks ago, he was scared of darkness.

Becky, just gorgeous!!

I am going to dim it to 0.  I have asked if she wanted a night light but she likes complete darkness when she sleeps.

Interesting.  Thanks for bringing this up.  Apparently there's good research to back this up.
The tweaking never stops!
