Hi all

My dd has been waking early for months and I have been cutting her first nap/ pushing her first A time

I am currently thjnking she needs to drop to one nap but I knowthis is early (I think ds was nearer 14/15months). DD is not even 10 mo yet but these EW are driving mr mad

Was hoping to hear from mummies (or daddies!) who have btdt and dropped to one nap earlierhan isthr norm...what were your experiences of dropping to one nap? How did u go about it? And in retrospect do u think it wasthe right thing??

Definately the right thing to do with Emma...and with Oscar too, his issues started later around the 1:0.
Emma is not high sleep needs neither low but has an amazing ability to tag on at the end of the night (and always has had).

We began the 2:1 at 9.5 mths with her and were down to one nap of only 1.5-2 hrs max (she only did two hours maybe twice in her life though) by 11 mths. BUT she did 13.5 hr nights at this stage.

With Oscar, we dropped to 1 nap cold turkey around 11 mths and got delicious 3 hr naps and 11 hr nights for months and months....it was gorgeous!

Thanks for your reply Shivi. What made you decide todrop to one nap. Was it early starts too? I really hope that this will do the trick and am reassured to hear that it worked well for both of your LOs!!!

Thank you so much

Heya! Zac dropped to 1 nap finally abut 11.5months, but before this he was hit and miss with the CN and I was using it every few days to keep cumulated OT at bay along with EBT.

Zac also tagged on lost sleep at night time, so EBT worked well if we had a rough day where Z's nap was short but he refused the CN.

We also started the 2-1 around 9.5months and took a good 2 months to get there. I tried to hold on to the CN till 12 months, but we just had refusals every nap time no matter what I did (ie car rides/buggy/APOP ::) ) SO we made the jump after 1 week of CN refusals and EBT. He is now 12 1/2 months and other than the odd bad day with teething etc he is a lot happier and sleeping better at night and for naps.

What do your LOs days look like now?

Hey my Lo now 4 did. I really tried to hold on to it...Posted here and tried all thetips (which I can't remember but think one was to shorten one nap). Dd was refusing one nap. Advice here helped me decide to go for it and it really worked for dd....Went sttaight to 1 nap and she immediately took a long nap...Often more in total than the two naps together previously.  Best of luck.

Megan went at 10.5 mths, Jacob at 11.5 mths.

It was the EWs that made me switch both times (and refused naps thrown in as well every now and again).

When Meg Meg started waking and singing at 4.30-5am and never going back to sleep I realised we needed to switch. Don't regret it at all.

Both of mine do EW with teething as well though. Just something to bear in mind  ;).

I made the final jump at 11 months.  I battled with the long AM/short PM/CN and many combinations of the three for a solid month.  She was sleeping 10 hours or LESS at night, always cranky, and I was forever rocking her to sleep for 30 mins just to get her down for naps and BT, only to wake her up from all naps... it was horrible!

I just made the change one day and it has gone over very well!  Nights have lengthened as has that one nap - she goes down easily and is much happier all day - she sleeps much better for her nap and all night too!

Ha yes..I don't think cute is the word that springs to mind immediately when I hear her chirping at 4.45am (which it was this morning boooooo!!!!) ::)

So yestersday she was up at 7.45am new time (after being awake 4.30 - 6.45am) then a 2h nap 1-3 then bed at 7pm

Guess what....4.45 start today. I had to slip in a nap at 9.30 (or rather she dropped off in the car) when dropping DS at nursery so I let her sleep until 10am and have put her down for nap 2 at 2pm...probably wasn't the best idea messing with naps the day the clocks change but we are desperate to beat these early starts...it's a sad day whan you are praying for at least a number 5 at the start of the clock numbers!!

I uttered more colourful phrases when DD used to get up before there was a 5 on the clock ;)  Still do on the rare occasion that she does it ;)

I never thought the day would come that I would be totally okay with getting up when the clock started with a 6, but that is where we are right now :)  And it's so much better than a 4 or 5!

What was her routine when things went wonky? 1pm is very late for a nap after an EW ESP at this age

We did because having a cat nap was making his days way too long. We did early bt to combat OT and it worked really well.

Oh yes I see that now, BUT still 2hrs up then 1 hr down a 5 hour A after a rough night is still a lot for a LO that age usually, Zac couldn't even do that yet after a night like that. :-\

Im not disregarding that your LO may be ready. BUT I do think you need to be sure as 10 months is still a very young age for an LO to make the switch, and that day looks OT to me and if you wanted us all to have a look at your usual EASY then we are more than happy too :)

It is a tough time (HUGS)
