Irishmam - APOP means accidental parenting on purpose, e.g. Rocking or taking baby for a walk to get them to sleep. You might do it to force a nap they might otherwise not take to prevent overtiredness.

Clairey - I don't know the answer to this, we're still occasionally doing an APOP CN as my DD also does a maximum of 1.5 hour naps. I've never had a 2 hour one so no idea how that'd be, sounds like a dream ;-) I don't let E have a CN everyday as I have been able to resettle her sometimes after an early wake up. But the early BT was great for a few days. Don't lose heart, we'll get there :-) xx

Hi, just joining in.  Have had lots of help on the EASY board recently and just started to get some decent naps after increasing A times :) However now we seem to be finishing the second nap at 3/3.30 - to CN or not to CN?!  A times are around 2h40, naps 1 1/2 to 2 hrs.  I often hear her rousing and resettling several times during naps which I'm not sure if could be still a tad UT?  DD will be 6 months in 10 days and is hard to APOP naps - she likes her own bed!  She's refused the CN last few times I've tried so has ended up OT by bedtime.  Urgh really 3-2 this soon??

Ha ha irishmam they're tricky these LO's aren't they?!  Guess we'll shoot for a 6.30ish bedtime for a bit til I can push those A times a bit further.  Can't believe it took me this long to work out that's what she needed though - was so paranoid about OT all the time didn't even consider the possibility of UT.  Given last week some days we were getting 3-4 20-30 minute naps we've come a long way!!

Hmm this morning DD slept through to 5.10am (no DF) so I fed as a NF and put her back down.  She made some noise for about 5 mins, then was quiet again for about 15 mins, then noisy so we got up and started the day.  Just had a nap of 55 mins after A2h52 from that 5.10 wake-up......guessing she drifted off enough at that time to give me an UT nap  ??? Looks like it's the guessing game on A times for the rest of the day again!  Any way a nap that length could be OT?  She woke happy so I'm guessing probably not....

Quick question about increasing A time.....I have to do it slowly (very sensitive little one) if I increase it by five minutes and get a OT 30 minute nap - the next day should I stick to the new A time or go back to the old?

I think reading around the forums Clairey it is recommended to stay with the new longer A time for a few days & if it's still not working then shorten it. This gives even sensitive little ones a chance to get used to it. Hopefully you'll get a better nap tomorrow or the next day. :)

Thanks Buttonbobs - it really feels like this CN will never go away!!
Another question - is waking in the 5am hour - generally an indication of OT or UT at bedtime?
Our days are starting earlier and earlier - I think the CN is having an impact but no matter what I do I can not get a decent 2nd nap - never any longer than 40/50 minutes and yesterday I stretched the 2nd A time after a really good morning nap and got a 30min OT nap! Boo!

Irishmam - I think it would depend on how the day has been generally & how the night goes afterwards. If LO is very sleepy at BT but goes to sleep nicely & has a good night's sleep then it sounds to me like the day has gone well. Remember it is always an option to bring BT a little earlier if LO needs it while you're getting rid of the CN. HTH

Clairey, how much did you stretch the second A? I think your instinct I stretch it sounds right if you were getting UT 40/50 min naps before. It may be you need to stick at the new time to let your LO get used to it like you did for the first nap. Or perhaps shorten it a little to see if you can find a happy medium. 5am wake up could be a sign of UT or OT at BT, it depends on how everything else is going really. Was this following a long A time to bed? What was your EASY the day before?
