Advice re 3-2 transition and cat nap
« on: January 10, 2013, 13:57:16 pm »
Hi we are just going through 3-2 nap transition DS is 7.5 months, I've been posting on NW board as been having on and off probs!
After a bit of advice, if we go out in car and DS drops off for say 15 mins what would u do re BT? Does that small nap mean he would need later BT?
At the moment he's having a nap around 1.15 for around 1 1/2 hours so I'd have BT 6.15 roughly his A time is around 3.15 ish.
Thanks from finding it all a bit hard first time mum  ???

Could u post ur easy as EAS so we can get a better idea if your day?

At this age if you have a 15min CN you'd prob still need 1h44 mins to BT so it may get pushed bit later. It's quite normal to have a 13h day at this age too but no longer...

It's a bit varied each day but generally it's been:
Wake 5.45 (trying to push this to 6)
Ff 6.15 solids 8
Nap 8.45-10.10
Ff 10.30 solids 12
Nap 1.15-2.30
Ff 2.45 solids 4.30
Bath ff 5.45
BT 6

He's generally refusing cat nap so sometimes BT earlier! Today he woke at 5.20am but rocked to sleep and slept till 6.20 so day running later which is good as trying to push first nap to sort early waking!

He was brilliant up until Xmas and was sleeping till 6.30 but did have cat nap, he's on verge of crawling and is pulling up a lot.
Thanks
Zoe

Looking at that easy I would increase your second a as 45min naps are ut...your second a is 3h05 min I would increase it to 3h15min for a few days to see if u can gt a restorative 1.5h nap. Hold at this new a time for a few days for lo to adjust and if youre till getting short naps under an hr then i would add a little more to your a time. Your first nap looks good. However if that's less than 1h20 then u can increase first a too. ATM it looks fine tho :) so your day would look like this

Wu 6
A 3h
Nap 9-10.30
A 3h15
Nap 1.45-3.15
A 3h15
BT 6.30

Is my baby ready to increase his ‘A’ time? (incl. 'A' times for younger babies)

EW can be due to too short first a (so increasing by 5 min may help. However if u get short 30min OT nap I would stick to a time that works...). It can also be due to UT at BT or accumulated OT...

Today messed up a bit as 2nd nap was only an hour but think OS as my mum here and couldn't get him to calm before nap!! Woke at 3.05 so aiming for 6.20BT which is hard as OH gets home just before that and DS gets so excited!!  :o

Well last night was not good he went down ok but it ended up being 6.30 as OH came in and DS got excited so took a bit of quiet time to give bottle etc! He woke an hour and half after BT crying and we were out so took mum and hour to settle with full blown meltdown :-( poss took a while as not us! DS up at 5 again....sooo tired! Rocked and sat in chair until he woke at 7am as soon as try putting back in cot after 5am he wakes straight up!!! Feel like I don't know what I'm doing these days, so long for a 6.30am start lol!!
Should we stop the rocking in early am? Sleeps independently rest of the time!
Thanks
Zoe

Thanks, we had NW at 11pm last night but wonder if might be teething related as gave pain meds and after a good whole rocking he was asleep until 7am!
Did A time of 3.10 for both naps today and got am nap 1.25hrs and pm nap 1.05 hrs are these still UT as he seemed so ready for sleep at 3 hrs A time but I held off by reading to him!?

How long have u been on 3h10? I would stick to this a time for 3 days if it hasn't been that long and see if they improve. 1.5h is a restorative nap so if first nap doesn't increase a tad more I would add 5min to first a time. You could prob increase second a time as 1h is def an UT nap (anything under 1h20 is UT, 30 min OT and 20 min discomfort)

Hth

Only a couple of days!! Will try for extra 5 mins as is waking up happy!! Tomorrow will be a mess as we go swimming and he tends to fall asleep in pushchair afterwards and never for longer than 45 mins so guess will have to balance that with early BT!
Thanks for your help

Well we had a NW at 11.45pm but only lasted 20 mins and then slept till 6.20  :) guessing NW due to naps yesterday both under 1.5 but over an hour!
Morning nap aimed for 3.15 hr but he was fast asleep at 3.10hr as soon as laid him in cot but did 1.15 nap so UT?
We went swimming and got back in time for sleep in cot went down after 3.05 as knocked 10 mins off for last nap being short but do u need to knock more off if been doing physical stuff? He seemed shattered!

That first nap of 1h15 is still UT you could increase a touch more. Yes physical activity and OS does after some Los and u may need to shave off 5-10 min after those activities but if you get it nap (1h20 and under) then keep at same next time.

Hi just a quick question LO has done so far a 2 hour nap this am on 3.20 A this will mean pm nap won't be until 3.30pm would you cap that nap at an hour to preserve 7pm BT?
Thanks

Yup! Or you could let her have 1.5hr nap (more restorative) and BT a bit later as long as total day length is only 13hr max...either way is fine... Well done on a great first nap.
