I know - it sucks :(  think J and M sound quite alike sleep-wise.  Just kind of getting the feeling that one nap isn't going to magically solve it for us like it did for many others.  Think no naps is probably going to be our only shot at stability *sigh*

yes us too. I kind of already knew it was not going to be the magic answer but there was always hope. My hope now is firmly set on the clock change and a gro-clock which will be happening at the same time ;)

I do think it is worth pushing her to 12.30 so that even a short nap leaves a shorter a till bed - x coped much better with it than I expected him to as he was the same as m but I did just decide that enough was enough and 12.30 was going to have to be it. He is always awake before 6, often shortly after 5 and he is still doing okay with a nap at 12.30. Now that his nap is so much more consistent I do often put him down earlier when I can't cope with the idea of entertaining him any longer, :P, although never earlier than 12.15.

When his nights were a bit better I worked out that 6.30 was the absolute earliest we should put him down - although the sleep is not great, it is worse if we put him down earlier even if he short naps.

ok, will give that some thought. 6.30pm used to be the magic time for H. He loved a 6.30pm BT but I have noticed with M that she does better on a 6.15pm if it is going to be early....having said that she is probably about to change that now too!

WWYD?
Horrendous night. Was awake for about 2 hours 3-5am. I went in and she was screaming 'No' as I was trying to put her covers back on and then I was in and out. I did hear her say 'up' and 'out' which is a new thing.
Have no idea what to do today. She did go back to sleep until about 7.10am....what on earth?

Hugs Becky :( we went through a patch of this sort of wake up around the time E's language was picking up dramatically, even matching with asking to come "up". We put it down to waking at first due to teething discomfort but then being kept awake by her own brain working overtime. She stopped doing it once she learned to walk, are their any big developments happening at the moment? It could of course still be teeth?

Sorry I don't have anything particularly useful to add. Here holding your hand though xx

well she has been walking for ages but her talking and understanding have taken off - could it be that? I will check for teeth again today. What time nap? Stick to usual 12pm or push to 12.30pm?

I think today is as good a day as any to push for a 12.30 nap - she was asleep until 7.10 so her a time is going to be short. Also, it seems to me that there will always be an excuse if you want there to be, yk? So if you are going to go for it you might as well.

It does sound like her language development might be affecting her sleep - and it is so much harder to leave them shouting 'mummy' or 'no' than it is to leave them crying but it is just the same thing. Carry on with wiwo and I'm sure it will settle down in a few days.

It's hard to say. When we've had a rough night we often need to get a slightly earlier nap in but there may always be a reason so it might be worth pushing to 12.30 today & see what you get. What do you think?

will see how we go.

Clare - I am finding it so hard to do WIWO atm. She just screams the house down if I walk out so I have been settling her by just sitting next to the cot and ssshing and then doing a more gentle WIWO.

I think I made a mistake in that when I went in she was in a really uncomfortable position and her head was jammed up against the cot bars so I moved her and I think she hated that as she thought she was getting up so it took longer to settle.

Umm, no we are not getting up at 3am...

I so nearly put her in with us but I doubt she would sleep anyway and then we really are up for the day...shudder.

oh and a moan too...DH knows how bad her sleep is atm but decided to stay up until 1am. I went to bed early as I just cannot cope if I don't. I get annoyed that it is assumed I will get up because I have gone to bed early....I did about 30 mins and then said 'your turn!'

Did you try resettling her? I know you say that you can't, but we didn't used to be able to resettle x and now we can even if he has slept for 1.5h so it is worth trying to resettle her in the hope that one day it will work!

Hopefully she will still manage to get to bt at 6.30, though - I know that x would be able to after that nap, so I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
