Where did your 22-24 mo sleep when you went on holiday??!
« on: May 16, 2013, 11:19:37 am »
We are going away for two weeks in June  :).  DD dd will be 23 months and I have no idea where she will sleep  ???

She is currently in a normal cotbed, and we are in no hurry to move her out of it  ;).  We went away a few weeks ago and she slept (badly) in a travel cot (pack n play), but she really is getting too big for one now.  So what do we do with her?!  She is spirited and a terrible sleeper, so the thought of one of those ready beds is a definate no-go!  We have the option of a single bed, and we could take a bed guard - but I can't see her getting to sleep at all  :-\, and there is a wooden floor if she falls out.

Thanks for any thoughts  :-*

We still put him in the pack and play and that seems ok for us

Another couple of thoughts- if it's a motel you can take the mattress off and put it on the floor if you are worried about her falling out? Perhaps wing it with the guard- it might give her the impression that she can't get out?

You could co-sleep?

It's tricky- it's only the last holiday that we ent on where we actually got a reasonable amount of sleep! I went on a weekend away where i swear Hamish and I only got 2 hours sleep in the night... DH of course got 8 ::) And THAT was even with co-sleeping!!

We have the same issue next week!

We have a large travel-cot which she sleeps in at my parents' house, but it is longer than average and I'm just hoping she won't mind squeezing into the travel cot which comes with the holiday apartment... (is says it is for 0-2yrs, so I'm not sure if that's 24 months or 35 months!)

She has NEVER slept in a bed yet and I'm pretty sure that on holiday is the wrong time to start!  Another option is a mattress on the floor I guess?

Oh - posting same time as you Katy!

I would probably end up co-sleeping. So hard when they are cot-sleeping toddlers, like Cath said you don't want to make the transition on holiday but so many travel cots are really on the small side.

We were still using a travel cot at 2 years old (pack and play size) so would of used that.  Another thing we've done is put them in a bed with a chair propped up on the side next to them with pillows/blankets on to stop them falling out of bed.

the other option is to have her play and do some naps in the pack and play before you go? get her more used to it? she should be able to bend her legs and fit- i would doubt that the size would be the main factor stopping her from sleeping well in it- more the unfmiliar part... if you can get it used more often it might help?

I am def going to try the travel cot option first, the thought of co-sleeping for a whole week is not too appealing. Fine for a night or so when they are sick but on holiday I would def prefer not to...just hope she fits in. She is a big 2 year old too - yikes!!!

We always co-sleep on holidays...most hotel rooms here have two beds, so DH gets one, me and the girls get the other (unless I can persuade Masyn to climb in with DH).  I actually really enjoy doing it as I rarely do at home (Spencer is the type of kid where if we did it once, she would expect it every night - no thanks!). Oh, I do bring earplugs with me! DH and Spencer both used to snore, not as much anymore, but still!

We stayed in a hotel when ds2 was around the same age and they had got our booking wrong, there was no room for a cotbed and only 3 single beds.. No more rooms and all hotels fully booked as it was for the edinburgh marothon. Anyhow, we ended up putting ds2 on a load of blankets on the floor between the 2 single beds, we put a suitcase at the end to make it feel more like a cot. It took a wjile but he did sleep eventually. I know you probably don't have a room plan and it was less than ideal.. But maybe a mattress on the floor is the best option? (Enclosed if poss?? )

(oh, I suppose I should add that Masyn was in a BGB at home by 2.5, and Spencer's crib converted to a toddler bed by 16 months so they were used to being in a bed somewhat!)

We are just back from a weeks hols and my DS (21 months) slept in the pack n play.  He is also just about too big but managed okay and actually slept pretty well!

Also, depending on where your going (we were in the US) they have companies that rent baby equipment (strollers/high chairs/ etc). I'm sure you would be able to get a proper crib (a smaller metal one like the hotels have) if you want - depending on where you're headed I guess...

Just a thought...

Good luck.

Yeh I was gonna suggest getting a second hand ikea cotbed to take.. Would only work if you are driving though (and have a big car :P )
