Early waking!!!!!
« on: April 20, 2014, 22:37:14 pm »
:'( :'( :'( I m so tired. It has been like a month already. Dd has been waking up anytime from 0515-0545 normally 0545 but this morning it was 0515!!!! She is currently teething her 1st molar I can just abt see the teeth. DM doesn't really work because she will wake up totally n take ages to go back to sleep
When she wakes at 5ish I went in n gave her meds n hope she fells back to sleep but she only has done it once. She will then lay in bed sucking her cloth till I pick her up at 0645. She doesn't really cry for me just whine closer to 0630.

What should I do? Wait till this stupid molars r out??? N pray she will go back to sleeping in??? She also has stopped eating much this two days. I suspect teeth is hurting when she bites???
Her routine now

0530/0545 wu out of bed 0645
0650 milk
0815 breakfast
1130 lunch
1200/1215-1345/1415 (1.5-2h) mostly 1.5hr nap used to be 1230/1245 but because she is waking so early I push forward.
Bedtime 1900-1915 if 2h nap won't sleep till 1930/45

I tried early bedtime 1830 but won't sleep till 1915.

On good fri we were out all day so she only napped 30mind in thd car n when we reached home I put her down but she won't sleep but had 45 mins rest time in bed. Then early bed at 6pm didn't sleep till 1830 till the next day 0650 that is more than 12 hr sleep woohoo!!!
I m thinking should I cut her nap to 1h 15?
She is 16 mth always a very lsn only naps 1.5 hr now down to one nap at 11mth. Any sleep longer than 2hr I will have night wake.

Any advise pls??? Really appreciate ur advise n insight. Pls share ur experience. I m so tired
Just found out I m preg with no2

No real advice cos my lo is very similar to your a and we're about two months in to a period of him cutting all four molars and then allfour ccanines straight afterwards!  So our sleep is really mucked up too. I'm holding off til all the canines are through before having any expectation of better sleep.  But just wanted to offer congratulations on no.2 :) and hugs for the tiredness.  I found it very tiring being pregnant with a 2 year old who slept well.  I can just imagine how it must be with a one year old who doesn't need much sleep.

On that note, I'll tell you what I've noticed with my lsn little one, and what I'd try,  though like I say, we're all over the place nap wise, sonot sure iI'll give good advice... Since J has been cutting molars he's really shortened his nap to 45 minutes - 1hr 15, no matter what I do,  it seems. But his nights have improved massively since then.  We used to get a lot of unsettled nights and a 2hr nw at least once a week.  Now he does 10.5 - 11hrs without a peep. I've noticed with him that a longer first A generally helps with longer nights, so if I were you,  I'd shift the nap back to 12.15 / 12.30ish and at first only cap at 2hrs, but if that didn't work then cap at 1.5hrs. If that still doesn't help I'd probably hold off making any other changes til her tooth is through but after that, yes, I'd try capping further.

Like I say, though,  I'm not doing too well with naps myself at the moment so others may have better advice!

Hi there, sorry you're having a tough time of it, but congrats on your pregnancy. :)

With an LSN LO - it can sometimes be counter productive to bring the nap earlier when you're getting EWs. Could you try moving it a little later again and if you find it helps, capping it, and see how you get on? We had a rough patch of sleep around 14-18 months too and I'm sorry to say not a lot made it better for us. It does sound like you've already noticed a pattern which helps, I think it's worth a try. Thanks Naomi and LLAJ,
I am still a bit shock abt my pregnancy to be honest. I mean it's planned but didn't expect it to be so soon. But thanks.
After reading all the recent post on others EW I suspect I need to push nap back too so.. This morning she woke up at 0520, she is trying to go back to sleep but unsuccessful and started crying hard. I also think she is hungry because she hasn't ate much this two days as she has a doggy stomach n was puking the night before. So I fed her n put her down again at 0550 she went back to sleep at 0625 till 0730 when I woke her up.
So I thought perfect day to push her nap back again. So I put her down today at 1245 and finally fell asleep at 1300 woke up half way at 1400 whining for 5 mins but ss and back to sleep. I am going to cap sleep at 2hr. But not sure what time to put her down then for bedtime?

NW 0520
Wu 0730
Nap 1300-1500
Bedtime?.. 1930/2000

Pls advise thanks. I will try to push nap back for a few days to see if it makes a difference. Thanks for your advice ladies. :-)

Hi there, sorry to hear she's been poorly. To be honest, while she's ill, there's not a lot you can do in the way of tweaking, just follow her signals and let her sleep when she wants to while ill and then get her back on track once she's well again. ((Hugs))

Help help :'( :'( :'( we r all so super tired. We now have night wake every single night for 2-3.5 hrs with terrible tantrums n separation anxiety like I have never see before.

The only night she slept through was when she only had an hour nap and refused to sleep again so that night she slept from 1910 to 1810 so 11hrs. But most days are like this now

Wu 0550/0600
Nap1230 for 1.5
Bedtime1915
NW 2330 or 0130

Last night was terrible.

Bedtime in bed at 1845 but was crying at 1900 so went in and she wouldn't let me put her in her cot she insisted I carry her. After 30mins finally manage to put her in bed and she finally slept at 1945

NW 2330-0300 crying so I have to go in and give her nurofen then she insisted on me sitting on the rocking chair n rocking her to sleep wouldn't go back in her cot otherwise she threw a massive fit and tantrums screaming. Eventually by 0240 I gave up and rocked her back to sleep and managed to put her back down in her cot. I also turned on the white noise to soothe her because it helped the night before,
Wu 0730-0750
Nap 1245

I am thinking since the only day she slept thru was when she had 1hr nap should I cut her nap to 1hr today and put her to bed at 1830 and see if she sleeps thru? What do u think?
I am so tired, I feel sick because I am preg with 2nd baby and so tired.
Why has my baby suddenly turned into a monster?
She slept thru since 6 weeks independent sleeper since 2mth and also I need to do normally is sing her a song tell her night night see u in the morning she will go to sleep. What has gone wrong.?
All the 4 molars are cutting at the same time I can feel the edges n tip of all four of them now.
Does teething molars bring out such terrible SA?
I tried wi/wo and gw but as soon as she sensed I am an inch a way she started crying n insist I pick her up out of the cot and wouldn't let me put her back in the cot.
Pls help! Any advice will be very much appreciated.

Hugs honey, that's quite a lot of questions but to simplify things, yes teething and illness absolutely can make LOs this clingy and make SA rear it's very needy head. Personally until she's well and you're sure she's not uncomfortable from the teething there's not much you can do other than offer the extra cuddles and support she needs.

I am sorry as I know it's not what you want to hear right how but I think you need to  ride it out. Probably staying with her until she settles at each sleep and NW. I appreciate you're exhausted, can anyone else help with the NWs?

Thanks Naomi, my husband helped out last night but he is back to work tomorrow so needs his sleep. I might have to sleep in her room I guess. Just wish this teeth would cut thru faster.
Thank you. Didnt think it could get so bad. :'(

Do whatever you need to do to get throwing the next few days (if sleeping in her room helps you to rest more go for it) and then use GW or WIWO to get back to independent sleep. There is a risk you sleeping in her room will become a little bit of a prop and you'll need to work to wean her off, but I've personal found that when DD has needed more support we've been able to offer those extra cuddles and/or bring her into our bed for the odd night and then once she's feeling better it hasn't taken much effort to get her back to normal.

Good luck xx

I really want to disappear right now. Every night she is waking up at 0430 wanting me to hold her otherwise she won't go back to sleep. I can't leave the room otherwise she will scream the house down. Now nap has gone to pots too. She used to be okie for nap. I can leave her she will go to sleep. Now nap is same as bt and NW. I have to be in the room as soon as I am out of side she will scream and scream. I am so tired.  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
We r going on holiday this sat. I dread it is going to be like this all holiday spoiling everything.
I am held hostage in her room till she sleeps.
I hate u molars!!!
Sorry just needed to vent...

Vent away sweetie ((((hugs))))

Are you medicating for the pain? You could try giving meds as a dream feed at around 3/3.30am and see if that prevents the NW from happening to begin with.

DM doesn't work because she always wakes up n then stays awake. Tonight bedtime was horrendous i can only make it as far as the door n can't get out until she has fallen asleep. As soon as I get out of the room she screams the house down like there is no tomorrow until I went in n stroked her.
Medication doesn't seem to help. This is like serious separation anxiety like never before. I can't dealt with it anymore. Seriously she is horrible !!!!  :'( :'( :'( :'(
Sorry I really need to vent. I got no one who understands........
Shall I go heartless now n start to sleep train with gw or wait till all molars r out?

Last night was better apart from bedtime. She woke up briefly at 2330 but ss then 0030 crying go I went in gave her water n teething gel a cuddle put her down sang her a lullaby. But I still can't leave the room till she fell asleep. But it only took 15 mins. She then slept till 0640 this morning. So relieved. Hadn't slept so well for a long long time.

Another 2 hr night wake last night hmmm even with meds she didn't go back to sleep until 2 hrs later.
She is waking up for 2-3hra at night every nught unless she short naps. I think I might just cut the nap short n see if it makes a difference. What do u guys think?

I'd give it a go, personally.  Too much day sleep causes problems here too and J has slept much much better at night since he started shortening his naps (he's doing it by himself, I'm not capping). If it makes things worse at least you'll know why and can fix it.

Jack isn't normal but the longest nap we'll get out of him now is 1hr 20 and he's only 14 months. That seems to work for us though.
