6.5 mnth old breastfeeding and starting purees
« on: May 14, 2018, 11:53:31 am »
Hi
We started purees at around 6 months. I have to say I hate this!

1st my baby wants to feed every 2 hours when it used to be 4 and it doesnt feel like a growth spurt. I ffeel like im comfort nursing alot and that makes him snack. How do i stop this?!?
All of this is making him very gassy!
Plus how much am i supposed to breastfeed when intro. Purees. How much is enough i feel like idont know anything about this and i do t want to ruin my supply!

Thanks!

You bf pretty much the same till they reach 1yo. A saying I got from these forums “solids for fun, till they are one”, so it all about learning textures and tastes and not about how much they eat. If you don’t like purée, you can try baby led weaning. That is definitely fun, less hassle to prepare but a hell of a mess to clean up.

What is it that you hate about it?

There is a growth spurt at 6mo so it could be that.  Breastmilk also helps digest solids so it makes sense that babies would want a little extra feed around the time they eat solids. Are you offering water in a sippy cup with the food? Have you looked at the example routines to work towards? https://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=68458.0
There are lots of other useful FAQs on the feeding solids board.

What sort of foods are you feeding LO and how often? It's best to start slowly to give baby's digestive system time to get used to the new foods.
