Nearly 3yo - early wakings and late bedtimes
« on: May 23, 2019, 19:39:13 pm »
Hi all

Looking for advice about my lovely 2y9m old son. Bless him, heís been a super trouper with sleep for quite some time now but itís recently been disrupted and I donít know why...

His old routine (which was fab and worked well for ages) was
WU 7.15/7.30
Nap 1.30-2.45
Bedtime 7.30/8

But now, itís
WU 6.30 (doesnít settle back to sleep despite being in cot until 7.15)
Nap 1.30-2.30 (Heís still asleep and heís so tired, I have to wake him repeatedly before he wakes up!)
Bedtime 8.30/9 (despite being in his cot for 7.45! Heíll sing and talk and ask for water for a long time before eventually drifting off).

In terms of disruption, the only change recently is that we started toilet training 6weeks aho and  heís doing so well in the daytime. He still wears a nappy for nap and night time so I canít imagine thatís an issue...
any advice please?
Should I cap the nap further to less than 1hour ? Should I move the nap earlier? Should I move bedtime later? I really donít know where to start!

Thanks in advance

Sounds like he's ready to drop the nap.
There comes a point that regular day time sleep robs twice as much from the night and is kind of an indication that they don't need it as much. I'd try a no nap day and see what happens.

Thanks Katet,
I suspected that might be the case, perhaps Iím delaying the inevitable!
Weíre going to Canada next month for 2 weeks which is a -4hour time difference so I think Iíll carry on with the usual for now and try dropping nap after holiday. I suspect his routine will be all over the place during and straight after the holiday!
Thanks again 😊

I think with a Holiday, that will be the perfect time to test it out. As it always changes things a bit.
