The book I used to make all dd's food, Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron, always mentions using microwaving as a way to cook, so I would lean towards no.  I microwaved a lot of the food I made out of convience.
Hope that helps.

thanks rachel, i think i may want to start, like you say, out of convenience.  but didn't want to give him 'dead' food.

I believe that steaming is best, then microwaving and than finally boiling which removes a lot of the nutrients into the water.

I have read recently that microwaving in plastic or with plastic covering your food (like saran wrap) is supposed to be harmful.  I don't know how valid that is, it was a forward from a friend.  So now I just steam in a glass bowl that has a lid.  I've actually heard that microwaving is better since it cooks it faster w/o losing a lot of the nutrients in the water, since there is very little of it.
