Hi and welcome to the site , this is a very common problem in babies and is a very popular topic to post . i have posted a link for you to read , one of many previous posts . i hope it helps . we have been dealing with constipation ever since Ryan started solids , but he is also on constipating reflux meds . we had to put him on "lactulose " as he was straining so much .

Hello, welcome to the boards :)

I just wanted to add that my ds suffers from this too. The best advice I can give is to make sure he has enough fluids. My HV told me (and I think it makes a lot of sense) to treat his formula drinks as a meal, rather than a drink, even if he is eating solids. So he needs drinks as well.

If you can get him to drink water, then great, but I never could, so I dilute Heinz baby juice, half and half with water (it already says it's diluted as well), and he likes to drink this. He has a couple of bottles a day between meals (although, at your ds' age, he was only drinking the 125ml bottles 2x a day, and this worked fine).

If we don't do this, he has awful trouble. To get rid of the 'blockage' he has now, pureed prunes are always good (but not too much, or you'll have a serious nappy incident to deal with ;)).

HTH :)
Caroline :)

your welcome . they sell the heinz pear juice in most supermarkets aswell as boots .if i were you i would dilute it , although it is a ready to drink juice . it worked REALLY  well here . it's good for the initial unblock but don't give to much everyday . i know all babies are different but in my experience , it worked to well if i gave too much

I agree. I only used the juice b/c ds wouldn't drink water on it's own - your best sticking with mainly water, as it's better for him anyway, if he doesn't mind drinking it.

Good luck :)

we had this problem, and elsa now has ready brek for breakfast every morning with half pureed fruit mixed in which has sorted it. If it still happens I mix some pureed pear in with her food later in the day too and it always does the trick (be prepared for a mini explosion though!)
