EASY - Activities?
« on: November 14, 2006, 09:01:06 am »
My daughter is almost 9 weeks old and I would like to get her settled into EASY.  What kind of thing would you recommend for Activity?  I don't think that it could be anything to energetic, or she would just spit her milk back up!  Also, if anyone has an EASY routine that they have successfully used for a baby of around this age, that would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

At 9 weeks old your LO will have minimal activity.  Awake times typically are about an hour long and most of that time is used up by feeding, diaper change and wind down.  At 9 weeks, my LO spent about 15 minutes in her bouncy chair while I sang and played with her, or we would do some tummy time (about twice a day for 5-10 minutes each time), even just having her sit on your lap as you talk to her is activity enough, and pretty much all she can handle at the moment.

There are tons of suggestions in the FAQ section of the EASY forum that I suggest you read that will answer your question on her EASY routine.  Also check out the sample routines as well.

Just remember that a baby at this age is going through many changes and growth spurts that it is important to be able to roll with the punches and not worry too much if your routine is not perfect.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help Meggie.  At the moment she is on an EASY cycle of 2-3 hours.  The 'S' tends to vary from 0-3 hours - I wake her up for a feed rather than let her sleep longer, both to make sure she doesn't get too hungry and to help her sleep through the night.  Is this about right?  She manages to sleep 6 hours at night, going to sleep any time between 1am and 2am.  Is this OK or should she be going to bed earlier?

Again, thanks for the advice, I appreciate your spending time on replying to me  :D

Hi,

Is bedtime 1 or 2 am? or is this a time she wakes for a feed?  If it's her bedtime then it is way too late.  You want to start setting up her internal clock as soon as possible. If you send her the message that 1 am is her bedtime then that will stick in her head.  Bedtime should be between 6:30 and 7 pm. At 9 weeks she will still wake at night for a feed, but a 6 hour strech is a mayor accomplishment!

I agree with the PP.  You want to get your lo into a routine of going to bed at night and definitely agree with a bed time of 7:00

You are doing great with your lo sleeping 6 hour stretches.

Are you clusterfeeding and dreamfeeding?  This will help your lo to go longer at night too.
