Fantastic Eater BUT still won't eat FRUIT
« on: January 18, 2007, 20:57:08 pm »
So i posted a few months ago about DD only eating puree fruit. Well now she won't even eat that. The only way i can get her to eat it is to mix it in with her cereal which she doesn't have everyday.
She will eat dried fruit but not cut up fruit. I think it is the texture she doesn't like.
Is/Has anyone else gone through this please tell me this is just a phase.
I have tried eating it with her as she always wants what i am eating but no go.
This is very frustrating as she has always loved her ALL her food.

Will she pick the fruit up at all? or is it the texture in her mouth she does not like?

Natasha have you tried mixing a small bit with something else that's more savory?

Stacy i knew you would reply telling me not to worry ;)
She will pick it up but not put it in her mouth.
Jessica i realy want her to get use to eating it on its own. I tried mixing it with custard which she loves and she won't at it either

Maybe if you stick it in a Tim Tam?  ;D

Have you tried a baked apple? That texture might be ok for her.

Will she drink smoothies with a straw?

If so, you could get tons into her that way...

Natasha

Ewan is still really picky about his fruit intake.  He will eat veg and always has but fruit is a no go except for banana and apple.  He is branching out more now which is good but at that age we gave him smoothies which he LOVED.

Of course she would eat it then. (BTW new flavour coming out for Valentines Day)

I have though about that but am worried she won't drink plain milk after that.
lol atleast you know me by now lol. Seriously kaleb probably eats half of what catherine does in variety. its ONLY fruit, and she eats dried so im sure  between that and veggies she can get all her nutrients. Keep offering but I wouldnt get upset about it.  Have you tried canned fruit in fruit juice? It tends to be softer, sweeter then fresh fruit, much like the texture of purees.

Kaleb eats enough fruit to cover catherines non fruit anyways!  She willl eat it when shes ready and not a moment sooner!
You always make me laugh when you respond to my posts. No tried canned fruit as well. I have friends whos kids only eat fruit as well.
Thanks Lana i am glad i am not alone.
I am going to try something new tonight. I have made up a big fruit salad for us to have for dessert so we will see how that goes.

What's a Tim Tam? ??? ???

If it's just for the nutrients, you could get creative and put fruit into pancake/waffle batter, muffins etc. Or is it just the fact that she won't eat it on it's own what bothers you?

Natasha, Nello is the same.  >:(

It blows my mind as I never started him on commercial baby rice, we went straight to pureed pears and he has always loved them. Then he was an older baby and would eat anything of course, but there were age/diet restrictions.  Now as a toddler, he loves food, but fruit is our battle.  He will eat it in his yogurt and muesli in the morning though, so that is good!  He won't do pureed fruit, but will let me add applesauce to some of his foods, like cottage cheese.  I also add apple or pear slices to his grilled cheese sandwiches. I make stewed apricots and keep in fridge and use as a spread on toast or bread, crackers etc... He loves fruit leather and raisins or sultanas.  He will eat dried pineapple rings as a snack.

I can't believe I waited until he was a year to try berries and then he hated them!  I tried again recently after our teething battle, still no go.  I mean, strawberries, they are so delicious!  I have popped fresh pineapple and tangerines in his mouth and he will eat them, (not grapes though, spits them out!  ::)) but will not pick them up and put them in his own mouth.  Very weird.

Oh well, I remind myself, he ate curried coconut chicken and rice for dinner tonight with us, so fruit as worry is not too bad!  My friend who has 3 older ones, says to keep offering though, as they do come around.  Her DD tells her Mum her favourite food is Kiwi! (she is 4 now and never took fruit as a toddler)

I also remind myself that avocado and tomatoes are fruits, so there we go, he eats them like no tomorrow!   ;)

It is just frustrating though, as fruit is a fast and healthy snack to offer.

Whoever said about smoothies, thank you for reminding me of this.  Will try tomorrow. Will make it with almond milk, (so good, has anyone tried it? I am hooked on it!) flax oil, yoghurt and whatever fruit that is in the house.

Aisling x

Ps.  You know, I just re-read my post and I realise, he is getting plenty of fruit!  :-[ :o Typical Mummy stressing out and over analysing I suppose!  I think I am like you Natasha, I just want him to sit down to a nice snack of grapes, apples or melon pieces or even a banana for goodness sake!  HTH!

I think Stacy is right, we should be thankful!   :-*

Yep Michelle, that's it, but I was kidding. Natasha and I do a candy exchange  :-[ since I LOVE Tim Tams but can't get them in the US and she loves peanut butter M&Ms but can't get them in Australia.

I have to agree with Stacy! I know it's probably frustrating to you, but Natasha eats SO well and if fruit is her one no go, that's still awesome. I wish Marisa ate a tenth of what Natasha does...

That said, nothing wrong with dried fruit or smoothies. What about frozen fruit?

LOL sorry Natasha - of course I did know that but mommy brain has gotten best of me lately. Have you tried V8 Fusion juice? Has a full serving of fruit and veggies.
