My understanding is that antibiotics don't do anything to alter the course of the illness once you have symptoms, but can prevent it being passed on to others.  There's a link to a good study here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15674946

yes really tricky...I don;t want to pass it on to anyone else of course but anything that is viral CAN be passed on and I don't want to give abx unless totally necessary. Then when I asked what would happen if it did not clear up with abx she just said well these coughs can last 100 days...so saying it is viral - kwim? Going to talk to the naturopath and then make a decision tonight with DH. Sorry - this is turning into a health topic really.

I think you can lock this naomi...she def has whooping cough so sleep is out the window and we are co-sleeping...just like having a newborn!
