LOL, she has one upped you.  By holding your hand herself, she can stop you moving it away ;).  Clever little girls she is! And it IS sweet isn't it? Hugh doesn't hold my hand, but he climbs up to lay his head on my chest quite often when going to sleep or resettling.

Glad you had an OK night.

At Zara's age, we were sitting with her while she fell asleep, for an average of an hour per night.  As she got older, and her comprehension increased, we would just "go to the toilet" or "clean up the kitchen" and come back and "check" on her every minute or so...and eventually the checking got further apart etc. I think she was about 15 months or so when we started that, but it may have been a little older...depends how much of a hurry you are in, you could always slowly progress to that.

thanks Rina, I remember doing the same with thomas and it worked well. I tried with EMily last night, left the room a few times but she was NOT impressed LOL, not sure she understood what I was saying when I said I was going to the toilet, to get a drink etc

If you aren't sure she understands, she probably isn't ready for you to do that iykwim.  I know Hugh definitely isn't, he doesn't get it that I will come back when I say so....But Zara DID get that concept when I started doing it with her.

Her staring at the night light reminds me of the toy Nate has in his bed - it's a little elephant with a wheel on its tummy which he spins and it plays a little tune depending what picture it lands on 'elephants get sleepy too, at the end of the day .....' (I often hear it during the night!).  After I put him down he spins its tummy and stares at it like he's hypnotised, I find myself saying night night several times just so he'll actually look up at me!
