thanks Natalie and ladies  :-*

<Hugs> Angela - we have been getting random NWing here too the last three nights she has woken once each night but after the two nights of WI/WO we did it only takes me 5 mins at the most to resettle her now so I'm not complaining! (much LOL)  I think it may be teeth but we haven't given her any pain killers now for about 2 weeks. (apart from hylands teething tablets) I figure if she was really in pain she wouldn't resettle so easily!

Hope tonight is better for you!  :-*

well last night I gave her a little less A time before bed (about 3h50) and she went right to sleep.  She woke about 3-4 times during the night but settled herself each time, so the only annoying thing is that every time she woke up, I woke up too. :P  I feel the same way as you Enna, if she were really in pain from teething then she wouldn't resettle.  She had no teething meds last night.  I wonder why she is so unsettled though....hmmm...must be all that brain development going on.... ;)

It stinks that you wake up with her, but great that she doesn't need you!  I think it is normal for multiple wakings during the night so that might not go away, maybe turn the sound off completely on the monitor?

Angela, K cries out more than once, every night.  But she always carries on sleeping.  I suspect she is actually still asleep while she cries out.  I have the monitor on the lowest setting and if I'm in a deep sleep I don't hear her.  I think eventually you will get used to it and accept the fact that she doesn't need you so you can carry on sleeping too  ;)

It's still very hard to figure out her last A time.  Last night I gave her 3h50min again, the same as the night before.  It took her 30 minutes to fall asleep, with lots of crying, I eventually rubbed her back.  She wasn't OT and for the most part, she STTN except for one quick wake up b/c she smacked her hand into the end of the crib loudly and startled herself awake.  She was scared, but went back to sleep after DH went in to calm her.  Tonight she had 3h56min and whined for 5 minutes and went to sleep.  So I think I need to get it as close to 4h as I can, without her getting OT.  Hmmmmm.

So hi, it's me again.  We are doing okay; still getting some NWs here and there but if she does need us at all, it only takes a quick check on her.  Last night I think she was a little OT b/c she woke up about an hour after going to sleep, and she needed help (backrubbing) to go to sleep.  Then she woke up a couple more times, but DH only went in once; she settled herself the other times.

So I thought I'd post our current routine to see if anything particularly bad or wrong jumps out.

7:15am wake
10:35 to 11:15am nap #1
2:40 to 4pm nap #2
7:50/8pm bedtime

In the last 4-5 days she has extended her A times a little so that her afternoon nap has decreased from 1h30-40min to 1h15-20min.  So now I find bedtime a little tricky.  Should I reduce her morning nap more?  Don't I want to get at least a full sleep cycle in?

Angela, as we head closer and closer to 1 nap that nap time will decrease. (some even decrease all the way down to 20 min)
I really think you should give it a try so that the PM nap is longer and of better quality.
The advice I was given was to do 30 min and then try anywhere from 2hours to 2.5 hours A time before that next nap.

I am also scared to try this. But I'm thinking I'm going to need to. Lyle is just now getting adjusted to me waking him at 45 min. He did 4 hours A time today and I woke him at 45 min and he was in such a good mood the whole next A time. So the thought of waking him after 30 min is super scary :)

Think of it this way today's nap was only 40 min, that's only 10 less minutes :)

When Lyle wakes later in the morning I try putting him down around 3h-3h15m and he's not having it. So I don't really know how else I can fit in 2 naps. That's why I just decided to shoot for the one nap yesterday :)

Even with only 10 hours nights sleep last night he handled 4 hours A time like it was nothing.

I also think maybe decreasing the am nap would be good, hopefully that way the pm nap will increase in length again and then bedtime will be alright.

Yeah, I should probably cut her nap to 30 minutes...but I'm not sure what her next A time would be.  After a 40 minute nap, she can do 3h20 minutes of A time.  Actually I should say, she needs at LEAST 3h20min of A time.  The other option I can think of is to wake her up 15 minutes earlier, at 7am instead of hitting the snooze button (mommy's fault ;D).

Last night she went to sleep nicely on her own but she cried out a lot at night.  It's really strange - she'd cry really loudly for about 10-15 seconds and then that was it.  DH only went in once, around 11:30pm, to give her her lovey, which she had lost.  But her first cry out was around 10:30pm (she fell asleep at 8pm) so I don't think it is OTness.

how did your night go Sherry?  Natalie, are you and James feeling better? :)

Our night was horrible. I have NO idea what went wrong :(   I don't know if the 4 hours A time was just too much after having 4 hours A time first thing in the morning.

This is how yesterday went

A 5:00  :o
S 9:04-9:49  I woke him

S 1:04-3:00   :D

In bed 7:00 he rolled around and settled himself for a LONG time, but we did not have to go in, there was no crying or anything ???
S 7:28

NW 9:57
Cried out 12:47
NW 3:17
Had to go back in 3:37, gave meds
Asleep sometime right before 4.
Several noises in 4 and 5 o'clock hours :(
I have no idea what time he ACTUALLY woke up. His eyes were closed until 6:18

 ??? ??? ???
Since I didn't really know what time he woke I decided to put him down at 10. I know he was REALLY REALLY tired, but he didn't cry in bed or anything he went right to sleep. So hopefully we will make it through the rest of the day ok.

My first thought was that maybe that second nap was too long, but the other day he had a 45 min nap in the AM and a 2h15m nap in the PM, which ended close to 4  :P And I put him to bed at 7:30 and he had a good night and a good wake up the next day  ??? Why do they have to be sooooo confusing.

So that's why I'm guessing that 4 hours was just too much in the PM last night. He's adjusting to the long A time I think in the AM. 3h40m-3h50m seems to be a bit better for him.

Angela what A time are you currently doing in the PM??

I know!! it is sooo confusing!!

By PM do you mean the 2nd A time or the one right before bedtime?  Our 2nd A time is 3h20min after a 40-45 minute nap in the morning.  The one right before bed is 3h50min to 4h but today I tried 3h50 and she fell asleep right away but woke up an hour later crying, so she was OT.  :P  Oh well.  We had a busy day so I understand why.

I mean the 2nd A time. The one before the PM nap.

But the waking her up at 7 will help too.... maybe do that first, and then if you still find the A times getting longer and longer then cut that nap.

Angela ... just throwing this out there .. can't mind if we've been there before.

Would Z do a long AM and short PM nap?  So let her sleep a good nap in the morning, another long A in PM and then short catnap to take her through to bedtime.  Because it is a short catnap bedtime still comes early so she isn't as likely to get OT/OS before bed.  Just a thought ;)

Callie does ... 730 up, 1045/11-1230/1245 nap, 4-430 nap 7/715 bed.  So the last A is super short (compartively) :)
