What are your 2 year olds favorite toys?
« on: September 22, 2008, 11:36:23 am »
Abbi is 2 in January  :o :o :o :o :o

We dont have a lot of toys now :( Most are old and broken. What do your 2 year olds like? I saw Nic did a thread for her nearly 1 year old, so thought Id start one of my own as need ideas too but abbi's older. Abbi never seems to play much with stuff and I think its cause all the stuff doesnt occupy for very long at all

What works with your lo toy wise, that keeps their interest for ages?

Thanks :)

Her toy kitchen and all of her play food.

she loves books

 playdoh,
her painitng easel and anything crafty.
she also has a sandpit in the garden and adores this but I guess the best of the weather for that is already past.

hi Emma,
looks like your lo and mine are about the same age! anya loves her toy pram. she runs it upside down all over, mostly  ::)

books keep her occupied for a while. she has a talking bruin bear, which she keeps perpetually babbling/listening to.

we bought a mr.potato head for her today, lets see how it goes !

she doesnt do much with her blocks, though, so need to clear those off.

am also wondering what toys we can get for her, as we need to clear out the old and make way for new, age-appropriate ones.

i am guessing she should be looking at some numbers and alphabets now, so need to get those in :)

Leorah is also coming up to 2 and I took most of her toys away as she only used them to make a mess but for her birthday she is getting (not being given all at once!) a bike, Fairy Toadstool Cottage with little figures (ELC), Magnetic Learning Centre with numbers and alphabet (probably give her this nearer to 2½), an easel, playfood and a tea set and I will reintroduce her kitchen. Other stuff we have requested are play dough, washable pens, crayons, chalk and books.

I just bought her a Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Piggy Bank, she LOVES it! It has 10 coins and it counts to 10, sings and teaches colours and helps with that urge to put things into little gaps and holes  :D

Charlie will only be 2 in December, but he loves wooden puzzles.  He likes magnets too.  He has a farm set and a Thomas the Tank engine set.  And of course his favorite toys are anything he can steal from his big brother.   ;)

Well when my DD was two she loved drawing on anything even the walls so she only had crayons and wax crayons to draw with as they can be washed off the wall. She also loved playing with her babies, pram and toy food and still does love playing with these. But her most played with toy collection is her care bears and she nows shares them with her baby brother Edward as he enjoys playing with them too but I think it is just the bright colours he likes. Wooden puzzles used to keep her sat in one place for a long time and books are her carmer when she is feeling frustrated and angry. I think my best buy for her when she was 2 was here box of toy food fruit and veg as she was a fussy eater and she could explore food with these. ELC have some fabulas toy food sets or there is the new country cottage thing not sure if that is the name but they do toy food whih is soft and made of fabric instead of plastic but I think the plastic ones are easier to clean. Lots of ideas and a birthday in January I know how hard it is to buy for them as it is my DH's birthday only 3 weeks after christmas and I always buy he presents off the children for both christmas and birthday.

I just bought her a Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Piggy Bank, she LOVES it! It has 10 coins and it counts to 10, sings and teaches colours and helps with that urge to put things into little gaps and holes  :D

We do have this, I LOVE the song "Im a piggy bank, I have a piggy snout, you can put coins in my slot and you can take them out" and so on LOL, makes me giggle!

Great ideas ladies!

I saw a winnie the pooh treehouse set with little winnie the pooh figures etc, would love to get her one, says 3 + but I would of course supervise her!  Is it worth it? Kind of like a dolls house set up?  Would love to think shed love that!

Also, she has become attached to a dolly the last few days, we have a dolls pram, maybe I should get her some bits like a little dolls cot etc. Argos do an 18piece set for 30 pounds, maybe for xmas? Has a bouncy chair, cot, changing mat etc etc

Thanks for all the great ideas, magnets sound great. I LOVED care bares, "care bares prepare to starrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre" was my childhood catchphrase. Sylvanian families? Anyone had these?  Do they hold interest

She seems a proper girlie girl bless her :)

Might get some magnets too :) and I like the idea of the farm set too!

Ohhhhhhhhh I could go on and on lol!

Toys are soooooooooo expensive, so will go to car boot sales and ebay for the most part for toys, and clean them etc........

Thanks ladies, you are all fab!

He's a boy, but my 2-year-old loves his little Tykes transporter, as does the 4-year-ols and Sophie (barely 1). And it's indestructible, very important in our house. Also balls, all sizes. Lego, blocks, jigsaws.

Sophie 'so far so good' (31st august 2007).

Hi,

For those interested in Alphabet stuff, we have the leap frog alphabet magnet set - you put each letter magnet inside this larger magnet and it plays the name of the letter and the sound or sounds it makes, and it also plays the ABC song too - my almost 2 year old has loved it for about 4 months now, and it helps entertain her while I work in the kitchen.

She's really into imaginative play, so she enjoys the Little People sets by Fisher Price.  We have the barn, and she LOVES it!  We got her the "my first dollhouse" from Fisher Price as well, so we expect that to be a hit for her birthday.  We also have the bus and airplane from the same product line, and she likes those too, but not as much as the bigger toys like the barn.

This is a fun thread, so I'm glad to have marked my spot!  I'll add more as I continue shopping for both her birthday and Christmas gifts...
