Thanks for following on ladies, last few days have been:

WU 5.35
Nap1 9.30-9.45
Nap2 12.15-2.25
BT 6.30
1 NW

WU 5.45 but dozed in our bed until 6.45
Nap 1 15 mins in the pushchair 11.30ish
Nap 2 12.40-2.40
BT 7.30 (PD 7.15 took 15 mins of moaning and wi/wo)

He seemed tired at 6.30pm again tonight, but I wondered if putting him down at 6.30 again would lead to another 5.30ish WU.

MIL looked after him today, so naps were out of my hands. I have him tomorrow and Wednesday, so I can try something different!

If he sleeps through until 6.30 (dream on!) I think I'd be aiming for

WU 6.30
Nap 12-2
BT 7pm

If he wakes at 6am I would probably try
WU 6am
Nap 11.30-1.30pm
BT 6.30pm

If he wakes pre 6am again I'll try another 9.30 CN for 10/15 mins and then go for nap as soon after noon as he will have it.

He has afternoon nursery tomorrow which starts at 1pm and I have to be at work at 2pm, so things may go wrong... but I'll see what tonight brings!

Thanks again for your help. I know we've had some really good 11-11.5 hr nights and some lovely 2 hour naps since I started trying your suggestions, so I hope that we're on the right track, and at least I've realised my child is does not really need 10 hour nights and 1 hour naps (even if that's what he's been taking at some points!)

xx

Good plan, not sure how you will manage the nap with nursery in the middle though, you just have to do your best :-(  I have similar issues when on a half day at work.

If nursery is going to get in the middle of things I would maybe try a 20minute catnap in the morning (a nap this short won't encourage the EW but will keep him going until nursery starts at 1pm) and then asking nursery to settle him to sleep shortly after he arrives?  It's not ideal but it's the best solution I think as otherwise having to wake him before 2pm he is never going to last until bedtime and is going to end up OT and wake early again hun xx

^^this^^ is what I would do too.

He seemed tired at 6.30pm again tonight, but I wondered if putting him down at 6.30 again would lead to another 5.30ish WU.
I think for the first few days of catching up on OT its ok, and if he seems really tired then just go with it, but if his mood is improving & he continues to nap 12.30-2.30ish then yes a 6.30 BT will eventually lead to more EW as he will be UT.  So I would gradually push BT out to 7pm.  Maybe 7.15/7.30 was too late for him today?

Glad things are feeling a bit better overall though.  Hope he is a bit happier in himself for the extra sleep too.xx

41.1C fever is a very very high fever.  It is considered a medical emergency in a child hun and needs to be seen in hospital immedietely.   Go straight to A&E or phone NHS Direct for an ambulance if you can't get there (assuming you live in the UK). xx

Really?!  In Canada and the USA, it's just a high fever and can wait until you can get to family dr as long as it comes down with meds... unless of course baby is not eating/dehydrated/truly lethargic....

Wow!  Anything over 40degrees here is considered dangerous.   My LO's fever has never made it as high as 39 or I'd be in a complete panic!

Anything over 41 and they say LO is very high risks for seizures/convulsions from the fever so head straight to Accident and Emergency (like a trauma ward) or ring an ambulance.  I'm in Scotland, don't know if it's different south of the border though but if I took my LO to A&E with a fever that high there's no way they'd let me home until it was way down and staying down!

Hope he is feeling better today hun xx

That could be the difference... febrile seizures are not considered dangerous here.

Though a fever over 41 can be a risk for brain damage! So if it does not respond to meds within a few hours, you should go to the ER (emerg)...

Hiya hun

Hope you had a nice hol & that he is all better now?

Is today typical of what you have been doing most days?

I think 9am is too early for a nap after a 5am start hun - even if his night is short he's simply not ready.  I wouldn't try any earlier than 9.30am or you are likely to get refusal, like today.  I actually think you may be better trying to keep with the 1 nap wherever possible, & just use early bedtime to stop him getting OT.  On days like today where you have 2 naps, early bedtime won't be effective, because the A time (2.5hrs after a 1hr nap) will be too short - hence why he didn't settle right away.  But on a 1 nap day it will save him from the OT monster!

IIWM I would see what time he wakes tomorrow, try & keep him in bed til 6am & then shoot for a nap at 11am earliest, or 5.5hrs if he wakes after 6am.  If his nap is short, do early bedtime, like we discussed previously.  If he takes a 2hr nap, then aim for around 5hrs A time to BT.

What do you think?
