I agree with Zoey - no packaged foods for a few weeks and then very slowly try them one at a time...

Ok, here is what our box says: enriched wheat flour, maize flour, sugar, palm oil, dextrose, ammonium carbonates, calcium carbonate, monoglycerides, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine hydrochloride (Vit B1), riboflavin (Vit B2).

Maize, wheat or anything else on the list could be the issue.
Honestly I agree nothing packaged

If you have given her bread then cut slices into fingers & slow low bake in the oven & make your own teething biscuits.

FWIW teething biscuits gave DS2 a "dribble Rash" so never gave them to him.

Heinz brand, in a green bag. I checked the back and there is no rice in the ingredients, although there is a bunch of other stuff other than oatmeal. I guess it is for preserving, but my hippy roots are rearing their head... I think that I will try to make my own. I did with DS; it isn't hard.

I think that for finger food for the next while we are going to stick to fruit/veg... once I am comfortable that wheat isn't an issue, I will try bread. She loves feeding herself, so I guess we are going more the BLW route after all...

Day One of no packaged foods began today! We'll see...

Sounds like a fantastic plan Amy!

Start grinding those oats :)  Although, remember that oats can be cross contaminated with wheat ;)

Babies don't NEED cereal.  Really :)  Avocado is a great substitute, with healthy fats, and loaded with vitamins.  White beans, spinach, prunes, and peaches all have wonderful sources of iron if you're concerned about that.

Grain cereal is thought to be a good first food because of it's consistency, it's simple to prepare, and it can be fortified, but babies don't really need to have it.

Just thought I'd mention it :)

Just seeing this hun

Not one of my girls were able to handle rice. Every brand contains or is cross contaminated with milk unless you go to a health food store and buy a very expensive type ::) I was never able to find anything in a package that they could handle. What I did was make a big pot of porridge, added some applesauce because they were fine with it and pureed the snot out of it :P.

Most Mum-Mums have milk as the base for their flavour. If you want to try rice crackers that are a bit firmer when she's older they're in the cracker aisle at Superstore and made by Hot Kids. Same makers as Mum-Mums  but the only ingredients are Japonica rice, Safflower oil and salt. E has done great on them.

I'm not sure if you've known what's been going on with us, but E is testing negative now to everything she's having reactions too. It's pointing to food intolerances and not allergies. Just as serious but no official way to figure it out except through elimination so you're on the right track either way. Keep writing this stuff down in case you make it to an allergist. It'll help make sense of things later on.

FX she outgrows this soon xx

Milk isn't used as the base for anything in a mum-mum... they are potentially exposed to milk products in processing... they don't actually contain any milk ingredients.

Nope, not the toddler ones either... they are just rice, sugar, salt, natural flavours (for baby and toddler ones), potato starch :)

Huh. Well that's good then! But maybe more confusing here for Amy then :(

Oh and Superstore also has gluten free oats cheaper than anywhere I know of :)

For sure they do - but some celiacs can't have even gluten free oats ;)  My SIL's kids are living proof!

Well, I am back to not being sure what it is because her forehead is back to being really red, scaley, and cracked. So frustrating! I switched to Similac from Enfamil A+ a few days ago, and her poops are a bit less green and not runny. I had a free sample tin so though I might as well try it. I am taking advantage of DH being off Monday for the long weekend to spend some real time researching what our next move is going to be. It is going to be a milk trial; I just have to see what we should try.

Thanks for listening to me on this topic yet again ladies! I had a moment of weakness this week and talked about it on FB, which I hadn't done yet. ::) I don't usually talk about this stuff IRL to anyone except for DH.

Amy the two I would recommend first would be Alimentum  or Nutramigen.  Alimentum is cheaper and comes liquid ready to go but I found it tasted quite metallic and E wasn't a fan. But ready liquid was pretty nice. It didn't agree with her so we took her off. Nutramigen was our gold. It's a powder and a bit clumpy so I would recommend getting a good protein shakers from a supplement store like GNC .

Both of those formulas are Hypo-allergenic and most los tolerate them very well without needing to go to anything more specialized and far more expensive. I really wouldn't recommend soy for a lot of reasons, but the main ones are that 40% of los who can't handle milk also can't handle soy. At first E was great on it and then the same things started again and I think her soy issue may actually be worse than her dairy. Tue other reason is more opinion but I'm not a fan of soy for little girls because of the hormones it can affect. There are debating studies on this.

If you need any info on mixing or getting her to take the stuff, pm me.

Hugs hun, you're doing great.

when you stopped rice, did you inadvertently stop anything else?

Owen was on Alimentum and did great til 1yr at which time he could have cow's milk fine, but stayed on reflux meds until 15months.  Wyatt is on reflux meds and Neocate because he is MPI.  We tried Alimentum with Wyatt and he was just as miserable as on regular formula.

I agree that Alimentum would be a good place to start, remembering that if she is having trouble with milk proteins, it will take some time for those proteins to leave her body and for any damage to heal, in order to see a change in her symptoms.

Lastly, Owen wouldn't take the Alimentum at first, because I just thought he'd be happy to drink something that smells like hell. ;)  But once we began substituting an ounce for an ounce every day or so, he was much more happy to consume it.
