Welcome Kara!

Barbara - hopefully you get a good night...I would be so worried about keeping DD up until 8:30pm if I wasn't sure if she napped or not, you are a brave woman!

DD has caught a cold from DH (I got it too, yuck) so she is napping really well.  She slept over 2 hrs today, at one point I went in because she sounded like she was waking up and I cuddled up with her but she just kicked me out, hahahaha!  As much as I hate that she has a cold, I'm loving the long naps...

Hi

I agree that I should be careful with Megan, Vicki but she's up at 5am! It's too early! I think she was a bit OT last night, she'd been at her grandparents all day with her cousins and if course didn't nap. I couldn't get her back home until 5.20pm, as Id been at work and had to do tea etc. she was asleep at 6.15pm. So only a 10 hour 45 night. I think I'll try and have a quiet ish day with her today and see when she asks to go to bed tonight. Im hoping its not too early! She got in the car at 5pm and said 'go to bed!'
Im worried about OT creeping in again

Welcome Kara  :-*

Oh Dear, that's shifted earlier hasn't it  :(  ???

DD has caught a cold from DH (I got it too, yuck)

Hope you're both better soon  :-* but enjoy the rest  ;)

Sam was on no nap day 2 (for this most recent run) yesterday but he had a melt down at BT. We had a fantastic day at the seafront and the park and he walked a long way, then danced for a half hour at my Sisters in the afternoon, so maybe he needed a even shorter day after so much exercise  :-\ He then had NW which started an hour in and he was crying with pains in his knees. He has sporadically done this for well over a year and I finally found the possible answer last night (they say growing pains are a myth  :-\) apparently it is common for Toddlers to experience pain in their muscles after a day of vigorous exercise, and typically it causes NW's, which I found very interesting and thought some of you Ladies would too. We had 4 NW until I finally managed to get the Ibuprofen into him and then he slept through.

Barbara - hopefully you get a good night...I would be so worried about keeping DD up until 8:30pm if I wasn't sure if she napped or not, you are a brave woman!

Well, our routine is night 9 pm-8 am with 45 min-1.5 h nap (depending how night was). I try to maintain fixed bt and nap times and let him regulating himself if he wants nap or not. If he naps, I try to have him up at 3.30-3.45 max. If he doesn't nap, I anticipate bt of half an hour. This plan is working by now: he normally sleeps even with no nap, if he's too OT he wakes half an hour or so earlier (so he gives only a 10.5 h night), but when it happens I allow a slightly longer nap the day after and he catches up.
This plan works for us because we both work full time and for us is very difficult to do ebt. Moreover, our evening routine include a dinner all together as a family (which is our moment together and I don't like the idea of give it up), so doing bt too early is not feasible if we have to prepare dinner and eat before ds bt. Finally, Friday is the grannie's afternoon, F is at MIL's or my mum's and sleeps there, and it is impossible to tell them to have ebt. We have already problems with normal timings when he's there ::)

Anyway, F had 11.5 h night (from 8.45 pm to 8.20 am) :D with a nw due to a mosquito running around his head...
Now he's napping and I am going to wake him after 1 h.

Mama C how is Michael   when will he see a Doctor next
He is doing well, did a little running today and he didnt seem to get winded so it's looking good. I need to take him back for x-rays when his meds are gone, but they didnt tell me how long the meds last so I'm guessing about a week.

Hi Kara, hows Alexandra doing these days?

Hi Mama_C!  Long time no talk!  Sorry to hear that M has been so sick :(  Poor boy!  Alexandra is doing great!  Runs all over the place, talks a fair bit now (enough to get her point across!)... she is really just so much fun... except for these darn 2 yr molars!  BAH!

Did M call you momma yet?

Yes finally, but he only says it when I come home from somewhere. He never says momma when he wants me he just starts yelling at me,lol. He is talking up a storm now, and just today he learned to say love momma instead of love you. :) He is putting 3 words together now, I am so proud of him. I thought for awhile that we were going to have to do speech therapy but I guess he was just waiting until he could say what he wanted... I wish I could say M is just so much fun but he runs me ragged all day long, and now he refuses to sit in his high chair to eat, now it's "sit momma lap" over and over and refuses to eat unless he is in my lap eating my food.  Oh what fun :)

Barbara - sounds like you have it all figured out!  I think maybe when DD is your DS's age I may be able to get away with adjusting bt by only 30min...but for now I think it would just cause too many problems with her night time sleep  :-\

Seems DD is getting ready for another no nap spell...no nap yesterday, and again today she just laid in bed and chilled out instead of sleeping.  She yawned at 4pm, so I'll have to keep her to a 10.5hr day, not going to try to push for an 11hr day.  Hopefully she has a good night!

Tinkerbell - you need a new ticker for DD ;)

We are all off course right now - had DH's work Christmas party last night so I allowed a ripper of a nap of 3 hrs and woke at 5pm for the party - she was still awake in the car at 930pm when we got home... was out cold for the night at 10pm and up at 7am for the day with a few grumbles after 530am...   So, ripper nap again today to get rid of the OT - she was down about 1215... it's just about 2pm now and she has been a bit restless off and on (teeth I think!)... but will wake at 3pm... BT at 8pm.

Not all figured out at all! I only decided, I think F was around 20 mo, that I was too stressed by the timings every time that F slept in the night less than 11 h (and this was quite often in that period). I looked my lo and decided that if he is happy and timings work for our family (and for us 9 pm bt works very well, while i would hardly accept a pre-7 wu), I can accept also shorter nights and let him self-regulate a bit. From then I try to go a bit with the flow and it is working mostly. This doesn't mean we don't have ot meltdowns. One was this evening, F didn't nap at preschool today (at least he told me that) and was very tired. Then he slept immediately at bt at 8.30 and I hope that he catches up tomorrow at nap time.
I would love 13 h nights, but at your dd's age F never pushes more than 11 h nights (and till now his max has been 12 h), so I had to allow catch up naps to avoid ot.

The other thing is that I don't have many choiches because F is not at home with me and at daycare all children  below 4 have nap time from 2 to 4. And once a week F is with grannie and it is difficult to adjust routine when he's not with me.

Yup, welcome to our world Honey LOL. The long night from no nap day number 1 causes no nap day number 2 and so on and so forth. Sam has a cold so he woke after 11 hours 45 this morning which is a short no nap night for him, so back on track with a nap today and BT won't be so late either as he woke at 5.45. I'm thinking that may be the way to go to avoid too many NN days (hey let's use that acronym) to wake him up early on day 3 and shoot for a nap day. Not before he's had 11.5 hours at least though  :-\

Hi ladies

We had a blissful week of Megan sstn although up at 5am (there's always something!) but now we're back to NW's again!!! Last night she was up from 10-12! I was hoping she'd sleep in a bit to catch up on the lost sleep but she was awake at 6am. I kept her in bed until 6.45am and after that she just wouldn't stay in bed any longer.

I know she's OT but she's asleep by 6-6.15pm every night, like I said she's asking to go to bed. Yesterday I tried for a nap because I knew she was tired but predictably she refused, she just won't let go. BT was 5.45pm there were lots of tears and she was asleep by 6.20pm. Generally WU is around 6-6.30am.

I know we're getting into super OT territory again but Im already doing SEBT's. And she just won't nap in the day no matter what time I try or what I do to get her to nap. Should I try a super SEBT???

We're popping out this morning just for an hour and then Im keeping things quiet for the rest of the day. We can't get out much anyway with all this rain! Ill keep a close eye on her and just follow her lead. 2 days ago she wanted to go to bed at 4.30pm, should I have let her? She's not one to EVER pull a long night. Invariably it's 11.5 hours so she'd be up at 4am!! ???

Foxy, I'm not sure but I would have tried to follow her if she asks to go to bed even if early...

F woke at 7.50 (I suppose the sun woke him because I haven't heard anything before) so we had a 11 h night. I hope he naps today, even if he had no nw tonight while yesterday he had one nw and a restless night after 1 h nap. I feel we are really on the way of nap dropping. Slowly for now, but constantly...
Well, nw can also be due to orher things happening in this period that affected me and he can feel it. Will see!

Vicki, the idea of forcing a nap every 3 days is a good idea! Hope it works.
