Routine change with 16mo??
« on: February 19, 2014, 15:32:56 pm »
C is 16.5mo. This has been his routine for about 2 months

WU: 8am (I usually have to wake him - up tills a week ago he would sleep till 10am if I let him, sometimes 11am - this last week he has been waking naturally around 8)
S: 12.30-2.45 (again I had to wake him - this last week I have limited nap to 2 hours between 12.45-2.45 though)
BT: 6.45/7 usually no NW's but sometimes one at 4/5am and he has milk and straight back to sleep.

This week a few times he has chatted for a bit at bedtime before falling asleep and last night he had a NW at 10-11, he was just awake and wanted up to play, milk or cuddles didn't settle him but after an hour milk eventually did.

I know I don't have major problems but just trying to prevent any, do you think I need to change anything? I know he is higher sleep needs than most and 4.75A works well in the morning, he could prob go to 5 but then I would have to get him up after 1.45 nap to do the school run? I'm not sure about the afternoon A, is it usually the same, longer or shorter than morning?

Same boat here honey! I even posted similarly lol.
There is a developmental leaps starting at ~16 mths it often leads into the 18 mth sleep regression....

Teething is a bit of a problem here too, any teeth coming?

I'm working on pushing the nap back a little. With a WU of 8 you could try 1-3?

That would be ideal but I have to wake him at 2.45 to go collect L from school. He's been sleeping so well, I'm really not looking forward to any sort of regression! Lol!

What's your day look like Sara? What's T's A time like?

We had similar problems with S around 16 months. I think his days are a little bit short, so he's waking. S would seem tired but then we would end up putting her down. She'd go down but then wake a little later, or she'd just struggle to go down. I understand about the school runs messing things up. But I'd either try waking him a little earlier and/or moving BT back a bit. Our day is

7:30 - WU (she wakes anywhere from 7-7:30, but I wake her up if she sleeps past 7:30)
1-3 Nap (I wake her up, she was sleeping longer, but we found 2 hours was the key to good nights sleep and reasonable BT
7:30 BT (sometimes she only makes it until 7/7:15 for BT).

I hope that helps.

Agree his total A is really now but my Los are both LSN so their total A needs to be at least 10-10.5 hrs I n a day

Today I was out and he hates sleeping in the buggy so his day was this

WU 8am
S 1.15-1.50
BT 6.30

He can manage longer A's but if we are home he starts showing tired cues after 2hrs A and by 4hrs he's waiting at the stairs to go to bed - I actually have to distract him, usually with food, to keep him up longer!

I'm going to wake him at 7.45 tomorrow and aim for this

WU 7.45
S 12.45-2.45
BT 7.15

It may or may not work but it's worth a go maybe?

Just wondering, how is his iron levels do you know? When toms iron was really low he acted tired a lot as he was anemic. We also get tired signs when hungry ::) :P

I don't know iron levels? How would I find out? Bloods?

Before the last week he would get really cranky when hungry but now he grabs me (usually my leg) and takes me to the kitchen and points to the cupboard! It's very cute but it gets tiring when he does it 10x in one hour because he wants a biscuit! Lol!

This morning he was acting tired 1.5hr after getting up! Honestly, I've never seen anything like it! Do you think he might be anaemic with the dairy free diet? He eats plenty of meats and I try and get as much veg in him as possible but it's mainly hidden in sauces, he loves fruit but maybe I need to get a multivitamin?

If he's eating well then it's  he's too low, yeah you need bloods to know but it could be something different, like teething? The moving molars make t really tired  - also what does he eat in the morning. My boys get tired if they don't eat a good breakfast. Even worse if they have sugar in the morning ie biscuits as they are sugar loaded and get short bursts of energy.  Tom has more energy on the days I give him a chicken or lamb sausage for breakfast :o bananas are good slow release for energy too.

Does he get outside? - try taking him for fresh air to distract at 1.5 A as my suspicion is it's something else masking as tiredness maybe boredom? (T gets so bored so fast!)

Yup were going out as much as poss and it does help, both he and I have been a little poorly the last week (he ate some dairy and I've just been so drained) so I haven't been out as much. Were going to walk tomorrow, he loves getting out and splashing in puddles.

He loves bananas so I'll keep that in mind for morning - usually toast or weetabix in the mornings, sometimes porridge so I'll keep an eye on it. I don't really give him sugary biscuits, more like fruity/oaty bars but I just call them biscuits lol! He gets the occasional ginger snap but most biscuits he isn't allowed anyway so I don't really bother.

I'm hoping to push that first A tomorrow to 5 so I will let you know how he gets on :) thank you xx

I can't keep him up past 7! It's crazy!

Ended up having a shorter nap today because he fell over and bust his lip at 12.45 and was upset so he never actually went to sleep until 1.10 and I had to wake him at 2.45 so he had 1.35.

Depending on how the night goes I think I will wake him at 7.30 and do a 12.30-2.30 nap and then 7pm bt?

Tonight BT went ok, teeth, Jammie's, stories went well but as soon as I put him down he screamed. I took L into his room and got him in bed and while I was doing that C screamed angry for about 60 seconds then mantra for about 60 seconds then just stopped? I'm so glad but wondering what the reason for the crying is?

Hopefully he sleeps well!

What are you doing with bt/nap refusal or NW, I don't ever know whether to pick him up or try and settle in his cot or what?
