7 months old wakes up and wants to play
« on: January 04, 2018, 16:17:06 pm »
We sleep trained our daughter at 3 months old and for the most part it's been going good. She would wake 1 sometimes 2 times a night to feed and then she would be right back to sleep.  Lately, the past few weeks, she'll wake up and be wide awake for 2 hours. I can hear her wake up and babble happily to herself for a while.  For the most part I leave her unless she gets really upset, then I will go in, change and feed her, and then lay her back down. However, she seems to have no  interest in going back to sleep. She smiles at me, waves her arms and talks to me like she does during activity time. It takes me so long to get her back to sleep.

Let me say that she seems happy enough, when she wakes up she's not screaming or crying.  When she gets fussy after a while she's more complaining than being really upset.  She doesn't do this every night maybe once or twice a week, and it seems to happen at random times of the night.

Here is her EAS

8:00-8:10 wake up and breast fed
8:10-9:00 activity
9:00-9:30 solid food
9:30-10:30 activity
10:30- 12:00 sleep
12:00-12:10 wake up breast fed
12:10-1:00 activity
1:00-1:30 solid food
1:30-2:30 activity
2:30-4:00 sleep
4:00-4:10 wake up and breast fed
4:10-5:00 activity
5:00-5:30 solid food
5:30-6:30 activity
6:30-7:00 bedtime routine  (bath, stories, breast fed, bed)

So my question is, do I leave her if she's happy? Do I rush in when she first wakes to try and get her to settle quickly?  Do I engage in some lite activity? Do I give her some toys to play with? Is she going to get overtired? She seems fine during the day.

Hi there well a bonus is that she’s happy  :)

For the most part I’d leave her to it, it could be a developmental phase or it could be be she’s a tad UT, what time does she fall asleep? You may need to push the A time a little to nearer 3 hours and see if you can get a little later BT. An average A at this age is 2.5-3 hours...having 2 good naps of 1.5/2 hours then you’d prob be looking at a 12.5/13 hour day.x

Thanks for the response. I will try and lengthen her awake time and see how it goes.
