He still crying and telling you he is afraid?  Or is he just liking you being in there now?  Perhaps its hard to tell?  Is MIL gone?

Yes, MIL gone <phew>, only stayed about 3 days in the end. He seems to have forgotten about it.

Still getting very upset and saying 'too frightened in Charlie's bed'. Only had half his usual nap today as well :(. Dp has taken him out to cheer him up

Have you got an intercom monitor?  When Johno moved rooms he was fine at first and then started waking because it was raining.  Not as daft as it sounds as he has rooflights in his new room and it made a new noise.  So I had to take him all round the house demonstrating the noise was in every room.  Also, I taught him to talk into the monitor we had ready for the baby at that stage and then I could talk back as the new one had a walkie talkie feature.  That worked well and the problem stopped almost straight away with I think partly the huge excitement of the walkie talkie and the idea that you just had to shout and mummy was there in voice at least!

Jenny - yes, and it usually works, but not at the moment. He has to physically see me in the room to be happy enough to lie down and relax. Often, he used to wake up, call out for me, and I'd talk to him over the monitor, and he'd go back. Not now :(

I know, I feel awful - all these great suggestions and I'm shooting them all down :-[

We have come to a bit of a compromise tonight - I've told him I will not sit on his floor anymore, seriously, it's killing me ::), but I will sit on my bed (where he can see me if he stands up and looks around the door). I've also said I'll leave the door open all night for him, so, in theory, I should be in bed when he has his first night waking. Not ideal, but better than it has been.

He wasn't that happy, there were some tears, but I just kept reassuring him, and he's gone quiet now (thank goodness for wireless ;)).

Fingers crossed
Caroline :)

OK, so I'm downstairs now, and it's all quiet over the monitor. 8pm - that's pretty good for how it's been.

We'll see how it goes tonight.

Not too bad a night - a few nightwakings, but b/c I'd left the door open, I managed to talk him into going back to sleep every time, until about 5am when he'd had enough, and he came into bed for some snuggles. Again, the door being open is not ideal, and it's not exactly independent sleeping, but at least we got more sleep like that. Might do that for the next few nights, and then work on the door getting shut, and falling asleep w/o needing me there - I'll need you guys for that :o.

Think that's OK?
Caroline :)

No!

I've decided to keep him in his cot (it's pretty big) until he's at least 30  :P

Seriously, he'd be a terror - very spirited, I'm sure he'd be out of it all the time, causing havoc

I am the same. Three at least :)

So if he's still in a cot you could tell him it's still night-time until about 6.30 or so? Seems the early waking may also come from overtiredness  ???

There are also wee toddler timers where at a certain time lights come on and that means it's getting up time...
