annielm- i've been following your thread as my lo only sleeps about 30-40 mins for naps.  Take my opinion for what it's worth, but I think 2pm is way too late for a 20 min nap.  If it were me, if you're only going to let him sleep 20 mins, I'd put in his crib 1 hour 45 mins later, hopefully asleep by 2 hours A time.

Just my thoughts, as my concern would be he would be too OT to sleep at 2pm, and that may be why he didn't nap the last time he took a 20 min nap.

Good luck!

Leslie

Thanks, Lesorl, he slept thirty, though. Not much of a difference, I know, but what time do you think, now?

Hmmmmmmm.  What to do what to do.

I appreciate any input!!!  :-*

How are your lo's naps now?  Better?

Again, if it were me (and I repeatedly get 30-40 min naps), I'd put him down after 2hours 45 mins A time.  Thinking he'll be asleep by 3 hours.  I follow the 20 min nap, asleep by 2 hours A time; 30 min nap, asleep by 3 hours A time rule myself.

For us, 10 mins is a HUGE difference in a nap.

I think you might have misunderstood my last post, and/or missed what happened that day.  I had Bear in the crib after his twenty minute nap at EXACTLY 1 hour and 45 minutes.  He sang and sang and fussed and cryed for two hours, and that's when I ended up pulling him out of the crib at 2:40pm, kwim?  Does that make sense?

I'm rushing as I type because I am trying to get to the park, but i did try a 2 hour a-time after 20 minute nap and it BOMBED.  So I thought he might have needed even longer a-time.

I will have him back in the crib at 2 and 45 if you all think I should. That will be 1:05pm.  OK, can do.

And thanks again!!  :)

Happy mother's day lesorl!!

Oooo, Stacy, I'm not sure I understand what you are saying here.

You mean go back to one nap a day?

Or are you saying because he's almost making it 5 hours after awake time that, oh no, I really don't understand, I'm sorry.

I hope you're still on line, becayuse I'm about to pop him in the crib!!

And I think the only day this week he's gotten 13 hours is yesterday, I don't feel like he's caught up yet, he's still fussy.

What to do with this afternoon?  It is mother's day after all, I would love it not to be a scream fest.

Ok Annie did you get him down?  It's 1:05pm there!  :)  I think (only think) Stacy was saying no more than 2hrs sleep during the day, so if he took a 20min nap, only do a 1hr 40min nap this afternoon (fingers crossed he'll go down).  You're basically splitting up a 2hr-long nap to stretch his days out more, if that makes sense...

But I only think that's what she was saying.  ;)

Welcome, Leslie!  How old is your LO?

Annie- sorry, I did misunderstand and thought you had him in his crib later.  How'd it go today?

Nursekat- my lo is 16 mos, but a fantastic night sleeper.  We usually only get 30-40 min naps, 2x a day.

STACY,  I'm not really sure what you mean by the 2.5 thing, but anyway, no matter, he never went down for a pm nap.  And no, he has NEVER taken two naps since I started trying, but I have been giving him that "time out in the crib without sleep in the am's", remember??

So as it stands, he took that 20 minute am nap three days ago (never went back down for a pm), a 40 minute nap two days ago (never took a pm nap that day either), a two hour pm nap yesterday and a thirty minute nap this am.  Most nights have been 10 hours or so with NW's that he hadn't had before in weeks and weeks.  He is not in good shape.

I guess I can officially say two naps will not work for this kid.  He did not go back down today and I had him in the crib for two hours (1:05 to 3pm).  He rubbed his eyes and yawned all afternoon, but would not go to sleep.

I went to the BBQ, and had to just throw caution to the wind for my sanity's sake.  He was asleep by 7:30pm, it was the best I could do tonite.  I couldn't stay in the house another minute.

Tomorrow, I'll start all over again.  Quiet time in the crib, but NO AM NAPS AT ALL, and pm nap to start at 12noon.  I won't be too worried about length of nap, and to have him asleep at MOST 5 hours from when he woke.

I am exhausted again, and my nerves suck and I can't worry any more.

Do I even make any sense any more?

OK, this kid has had a hard enough week, I guess I can go back to 4:30-5am wakes, 10am-ish nap and 5pm-ish asleep.

Poor guy, after all these weeks, I'm really right back where I started and he's had a hell of a time.

I was hoping for a little later nights during the summer, I've never known a kid to need 5pm bedtime before.  But I've never met a kid like Bear before.

Thanks everyone for your help.

OK, will do.  THanks

Hey is anyone having trouble with PM's??  Every time I try to go to my message file, my computer crashes, otherwise I'm fine on the internet and with the rest of these sites.
