I think I did jinx myself-

Bed at 6:45pm last night, but up today at... 5:57am!  And we're supposed to check out a gym at 11am, so we won't be home before 11:30am, the earliest.

Egad!

try to stay relaxed.  go with it and see what happens. sometimes opportunities present themselves that push us to see what happens when we do different things - if she ends up with 5 1/2 - 6hrs A time you don't know what she will do - if she ends up with a big nap it is a great clue for you and if it is a disaster it is a one off and you will get through it.  HTH

Relaxing is good- we made it to the gym early, and were home by 11:10am.

Asleep by 11:25am- but what time do I put her to bed if she's up before 1pm?

EDIT- she woke at 12:21pm!  EEK!  Mercifully, she went back to sleep on my husband, and she's still sleeping at 1:10pm.  YAY!

She slept til 1:15pm yesterday, and was in bed at 6:40pm.  Up today at 6:12am, which makes her nap a little early.  I suppose after the nap established I can move her day forward 10 mins every few days, so it's more like 7pm-7am?

you can try 1 step at a time.  see how her nap goes and if it continues to grow you may find you end up with a 12-1:30 or so nap and a 7pm bedtime with no dramas...

Ut-oh, today's nap was only 11:28am-12:40pm.

Do I put her to bed at 6:15pm?  Earlier?

We were at my parents this afternoon, and she didn't fall asleep on the way home  :o  So I had her in bed at 6:05pm- hopefully I'm not completely screwing up.

I don't think she's going to take a 2nd nap these days... I just don't want her up for 6 hours before bed, kwim?

She slept 6:05pm- 6:18am, so I'm curious to see what her nap will be like.

If it's only going to be 1 hour 15 mins or so for awhile, do I need to move it closer to 12pm?  Or just stick with the A time, and then put her to bed earlier?

hard to say - if you think she is still not taking longer (1hr30+) nap due to not being tired enough after 12 hrs sleep then i woudl try noon.

What I meant was the nap won't lengthen for awhile (I've heard), so is it better to have more A time in the morning pre-nap or in the pm post nap?  Or is it one of those "some works for some kids" deals?  KWIM?

yeah - different strokes for different (kids) folks.  my kids tended to be ok with longer afternoon A time (especially spirited Olivia).  and because that late afternoon and evening coudl be kept filled with dinner, DVD, bath, stories and bedtime routines it seemed to pass easier than if it was in the middle of the day.

it comes down to how she will react to the extra length. if you keep her up extra long in the morning as a trial (say pushing out the nap to 12 or 12:30) and it results in a 1 1/2 - 2 hrs nap then you may find you easily make it to 6:30-7 for bedtime. if you try it and she takes a short nap regardless then you woudl still havew to consider a longer PM A time or early bed. it is all trial and error to see what she responds to as every kid really is different thanks to so many variables that all add up to them being "them".  HTH

Last night I heard her at 4:20am and 5am, and she was awake at 5:47am.  Mercifully she went b2s around 6am and woke at 6:40am.

I think I may need to shorten the post- nap A time, as I don't want to start EWs.
