1 NW last night and up for the day at 5.45am. Soooo many tantrums this morning and looking so tired. Nap at 12.30 (had to go out) and I left him until 3pm. Probably shouldn't have.He still didn't want to get up! Very grumpy. Bad 6.45pm and still talking at 7.30pm. Predicting an EW!
Its just us two tmrw and don't have to be anywhere except shopping in morning so will do nap at 12 but what length? Feeling a bit lost with this now : ( . Probably because DH away! xxx

Sounds like he's in a bit of an OT/UT loop....the long nap probably explains the BT resistance!
How did his night end up?

He dropped just after 7.30 last night. No NWings and up for the day at 6.05am. Happier this morning. Did nap at 12 but didn't stop talking until 12.25pm

I feel for you Nell, many hugs to you. I too, wish I could be a bit more accepting about it all; just thinking about the meltdown possibilites and the crankiness, screaming, and crying that I will experience the following day cause me great anxiety.

He might have been a little UT at BT after the 2hr nap. How was his night?

He always has 2 hr naps at home - should I start capping that? In the past that has caused problems but he's older now I suppose.
3 NWings last night 9pm, !2.45am and 3.40am. Each time was upside down and had lost dummy. This doesn't usually bother him.
Woke at 5.35am and i went in and said its still night time and Mummy is going back to sleep, be quiet as a mouse etc. He was quiet for ten mins then very loud whispering "Mummeee!"
Tearful within ten mins of going downstairs but cheerier now 8.30 as we are going to met his cousin who he adores.
So, nap at 12 again? And for how long? And what do you think about bedtime? Yesterday was unusual at nap time as he will always go straight down and not talk but he stayed awake for 25 mins. UT? OT? Is Mummy going crazy?! YES!!
Thanks for your help so much. Am off to meet my baby Sis now for a very large coffee and cake and will be home mid morning and check back in xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I think it's the A-time between his nap & BT that could be the issue, you tried to get him down for bed only after a 4hr & a bit A-time so he wouldn't have been tired enough to go to sleep hence the chatting. A 2hr nap for his age is fine if you feel he needs it. Some LO's need their nap capping to 1.5hrs at around this age (& then keep the same BT), he probably just needs a longer A-time before BT after a long nap so you can either push BT back to around 7.30pm/8pm. Or try capping his nap at 1.5hrs & do BT around 7/7.30pm.
As you are getting NW's & EW's ATM I would maybe leave the nap at 2hrs for now & push BT back to see if this makes a difference to his nights?
Enjoy the coffee & cake!

Thank you so much!!! Will do later bedtime tonight at 7.30pm. Put him down for nap at 12 noon and I could tell he was already OT. Difficult as we had been out for the morning and had to have a quick lunch. Took ten mins to drop off so will get him up at 2.10 and bed at 7.30pm. Will report back and thanks again xxxxxxx

Bed at 7.30 went well - he went straight to sleep with no noise and was very happy right up til bed time. Now lets see what happens ...xxxx

Thanks Amy!
Well we had one very brief NW but he was up for the day at 5.35am again - seems a favourite time.
What shall I do now do you think? He went straight to sleep last night but previously he dropped off at 7.30pm its just I put him in bed earlier so he chatted and shouted for 40 mins before! He definitely needs a longer nights sleep i think. Or do i just need to carry on like yesterday and go to bed earlier myself? Or should I cap the nap today and see what happens?
i know i sound ridiculous but i just am clueless! And 5.35am seems to be getting harder not easier.Hope my DH caught up on a LOT of sleep while he was away - he is SO on morning duty when he gets back : )
THANK YOU xxxxxxxxxx
