Hello ladies, I hope you are having an easier time than me at moment :-D Charlie had another 30min sleep today 1-1.30 so when I picked him up at 4.45 he was very rested and seemed wide awake. I have started his WD routine, again no thanks to DP, who decided to give him a second bowl of fruit and mini cheese when i had told Charlie we were going for bath in 5mins. Which meant after his program finished he had no where near eaten any of it, and started crying when i told him it was time to go. It then meant another 10mins extra which means the bath is going to have to be shorter, which in turn will cause tears or tantrums. Why don't men think? C has tea at nursery anything he has at home is just a snack, and he doesn't really need it.

Anyway moan over (till next time) i was going for a 6.30 BT but its going to be more like 7/7.30 depending on how long it takes him to fall asleep. Its really hard trying to get timings right. Is it best to go think with day length or set BT, i think at moment because he's WU and naps are all over the place day length might be better then hopefully OT won't set in. I think also i will stick to 30min naps certainly no longer than 45, unless chronic OT. What does everyone think? How long would day be with a nap of 30 mins? 12hrs? X

hi hazel, I would have got him ready for bed early swell with being up so early. I think the day should be no longer than 13 hrs but sometimes it just can't be helped. men! u tell them one thing it goes in one ear and out the other!!

I think 11.5 is far too long for ayden, he done that yesterday and woke at 9:40. so I tried 11 hrs 15 and he went to sleep within 10 mins.

Hazel, on a half hour nap Sam seemed to favour a 12 hour day, and anything over 12.5 was definitely too much, it did surprisingly make a difference to day length, but unfortunately his mood was bad so he's back to 1 hour. I would aim for a 12 hour day and then when you get way laid then at least it's damage limitation.

We had a 1.10 h nap at my mum's (my dad put actually F to bed for his nap, as my mum had to go to the doctor... My dad is great for those things and I think had  respects him a lot and follows him :) ). Bt was at usual 9 pm, which with a 8.15 wu is slightly less than 13 h. Our day oscillates between 12.5 and 13.5 h with 1-1.30h nap, and for us works well for now. I am ok until F is happy. When he's rested everything is much easier, make him ot and everything is a battle.

Hey Nicola, that's great with Ayden falling asleep within 10mins, did he have a nap today? I tend to find whatever the length nap it always takes Charlie more than 15mins to fall asleep, I can never get that timing right but after no naps he can go between 5 or 15mins. Thats what I look forward too, the short time to fall asleep.

Charlie eventually fell asleep at 7.15 tonight so it was quite a long day, but BT antics were quite bad it took 45mins to go to sleep, for the first 30 mins he was calling me back in, I kept quite and just said its BT but it was still frustrating as I watched him on monitor take covers off, then he called me to not tuck him in but straighten them under him, then 2mins after I left he called me to tuck him in grrr. The last 15mins he just laid there quietly. I will stick with not interacting with him, I just hope it works x

My DS usually wakes between seven and eight. The closer to 8am the better for me ;D He fell and had stitches on his forehead Sunday, and sleep has been wonky since. This Morning he woke up at 5:45 AM (he was asleep last night at 7:30pm with no nap yesterday) wide awake and jumping in the crib. I went and gave him some water and told him it was too early to wake up. Went back in my room and I didn't hear from him until 7:30 AM. But I don't think he fell back to sleep. Today was his first day of preschool, and he was obviously tired, almost fell asleep on the drive there at 8:30 AM. I put him straight in the crib after school at 12:30 and he was asleep at 1pm. I let him sleep till 2:30 PM, and now reading all your post I think I may have done wrong. I have no idea what time to make bedtime. If I kept it to a 13 hour day with his one and a half hour nap, bedtime would be 7?? I just don't think he'll fall asleep that fast after such a long nap. I always used to put him in the crib at 8:30, hoping for him to be asleep at 9pm when he used to nap on a regular basis. Which was what I was planning on doing today, my thinking was that if I put him to bed early he might wake again at 5:45 AM, and I really really don't want that. Even though he only had 10 hours of sleep last night, when he woke up at 5:45 it seems like an UT waking.

What bedtime  would you guys do tonight? I am clueless!... which is why I don't offer advice often, I have no idea what I'm doing! :o :o

Glad F had a good day Barbara, good on your Daddy LOL  ;)

Hazel, stick with the plan at BT, I'm sure it will pay off, tonight I only had to put Sam back in 3 times and it only took a minute for him to stay in bed, it is pure bliss  :D he goes quiet really quickly afterwards too.

WRT the covers thing, have you seen these: Not cheap but would really help  :)

Hi Nini,

It's a tricky one Honey, because he may need 6/6.5 A time after that nap, but not necessarily because his morning A time was long and could over ride the afternoon. IIWM I would try for 7.30 and if he's not ready extend WD until he seems sleepy.

Good Luck Hun.x.

I think it will work eventually Hazel.

We do a 12-12.5hrsish day on a 30-40min nap before 2pm but I normally just do BT at 7 whether he woke at 7 or 6.30am. but our norm is 7-7 with a nap or 7-6.30 with no nap.

Nini, I would do a 7.30 BT. Cadan would go to bed then even if it took him a while to fall asleep.

Nini, what works with my ds is keeping set timings. So, independently of the nap length, I usually try to keep the same bt plus/minus half an hour. Of course, this is until he has the nap. So, if his bt is usually 8.30 I would go for 8, considering the ew and the long day, in the hope he catches up an extra half an hour. If it doesn't work, the wu cannot be so bad (not expecting another ew, maybe this morning he was excited by preschool starting).
I think you've done well letting him nap and catching up after this short night.
I usually wake F for 3.30 pm with a 1-1.5 h nap and he's ready for bt at 9, so a 8 pm bt could be possible after waking at 2.30.
