« on: January 20, 2014, 14:01:14 pm »
Dd is hsn, sensitive to ot and routine has gone to pot again since dev leap. Were having nws and ew and naps are ranging from 1-2 hours.  Doesnt seem to make a diff on the a time im using. Before all this she was doing a 12h day on 2-2.5h nap. Shes an IS and would ss for sleep within 10 mins

Yesterday

Wu 6
nap 12.05-2.35 (rs and longest nap shes had in ages)
bt 7.30 (pd 7)
2 Nws

Today

Wu 6.30
nap 12.40-1.35 wth?! didnt resettle

Can you share your routines? any thoughts on what you would do? Her sleep has been disturbed since beginning of december with going on holiday, teething and lately SR. Im really beginning to lose my patience.

Tia x

I have another thread (thanks Hena for all the support) but im going round in circles so could use fresh eyes and btdt

 ut/ot cycle- confused!!

We've got a pretty similar schedule to yours, WU 6:30, nap 12-2 (1.5-2 hours), BT 7:30.

We've been getting a NW since around 24 months (DS is now 25.5 months), which we're still trying to solve.

What are you doing when she wakes at night? We found too much interaction (asking what's wrong, etc), reinforced multiple and long NW's. We also started using an imitation gro-clock that helped stop the EWs.

Hi thanks for replying

Nws i can usually ignore and she will sing, chatter and ss but ot nws when she gets upset i have to calm her down with shushing (thats rare tho).

Tbh that isnt our normal routine, im just winging it till i get a routine that works for her. Shes always been hsn and low a times but think that may have changed and i need to increase a times more suited to her age which is why others routines is helpful!

So today

Wu 6.30
nap 12.35-1.35 (think she woke early cos she did a poop)
Bt 6.35 (15 min to ss)

guess ill just have to keep tweaking until i can figure out her current sleep needs and then set naps/ bt from there...

hey hun,
DD1 has always been HSN& when she short naps&gets
OT,we do EBT.sometimes that works&=she will fall asleep
earlier, but other times she will just chatter away to
herself. my thinking is though, that just least she is that
having quiet time if she has EBT,even if she isn't actually
asleep,KWIM?
i also try really hard to make sure she has quiet time
during an OT day,so we will sit&read,or go for a drive,or
colour or something like that.

Well J has never been HSN in the past but it's like having a teenager here at the moment lol!

So nursery days (Mon-Wed) we have:

WU 6.45 (have to wake her)
Nap usually around 12-1ish, sometimes a bit longer or shorter
BT 6.30/45

But at home we have

WU 8 (have to wake her most days)
Nap 1/1.30-3pm (have to wake her)
BT 7pm, usually asleep by 7.30pm latest

So that's 13h sleep on nursery days and around 14-14.5h on home days.  Crazy!!  She's never needed that much sleep before but I just think there's so much going on at this age, they're so busy and so much to learn.  Any chance DD could actually need a bit more sleep, not less?

At 2 years old I really don't think she needs more than 2 hours day sleep even if she is HSN and I wonder if she is just swinging from OT to UT a lot? I would cap at 2 hours and set the nap even if you need to be a bit more flexible with BT. Chopping and changing does not help lo's all the time and she is at an age when setting really works for the majority of kids. I would go for a 12.30pm nap (no earlier) and a 7pm BT based on a 2 hour nap (30 mins earlier if less) and just go with it and see.

If it is a regression consistency is key - not saying you have not been consistent but I don;t think allowing overly long naps is helping tbh....she is 2 now and there can be a big leap at this age.

Our routine at 2 was
A - 6-7am
Nap - 12.30-2.30pm
BT - 7.30pm - this moved to 8pm once we got the gro clock as her wake up was nearer to 7am and nap was 1-3pm.

Probably not the best person to compare to though as M is def not HSN!

Just my opinion though hun and you know her best :)

Thankd ladies. It helps to get others perspective.

Katherine- i think youre right in that she needs more sleep but i also think Becky has a point in that she is going from ut to ot..hmm  guess set times and a 2h nap if i can get that are the way to go!

Happy- def agree that ebt will help with ot. I agree resting in cot is better if she isnt sleep but the singing is driving me crazy! lol

Wu was 7 this am so i dont think she will sleep for 12.30 so ill aim for nap 1-3 (fits better with nursery run too) and guage bt depending on nap!

thanks i feel much better now i have a plan! :-* :-*

how can this still be developmental? its been 3 weeks since this nonsense started!

6.5 A is really normal for her age, I would still try the set nap for a few days, if 1pm works better then do that. If after 4 or 5 days she is pretty much always going down around 1.20pm then you will have a better idea of what she wants/needs.

Really? it seems such a jump she was only doing 5.25h a before this craziness! i suppose if she does a good nap then ill know that 6.5h will work for her :-/ i just feel like im clutching at straws and nothing is working. Shes fallen asleep for nap after 5.5h-6.5h a andsometimes has done 2 h nap after the lower a times too so i just dont know what she needs.

no, i'm not saying it is def what she needs, just that it is by no means unusual for her age. Please don't take this the wrong way but trying to set for a day or two is not going to tell you whether setting is going to work or not. If you are going to do it, you do it and you stick to it regardless of wake up etc. I have never done completely set times but post 18 months with both mine we set the nap and at the age of 2 the 'average' time is 12.30-1pm ish. That is just a guide and of course they are all different but if nothing is working IMO you need to choose something and stick to it and see whether after a week-10 days she regulates - only you can help her to regulate and changing timings etc is not going to help. xx
