Kirsty, it was like that for me, you feel so good and then 'wham', they have a night of waking with a vengeance.
Don't give up, keep at it, you are doing so great and you can see a light at the end of the tunnel.  ((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))

HI

We have worked out that if he has his formula, he sleeps through or only wakes once but puts himself back to sleep. Plunket (they are a mother/baby support netwrok here from birth to 5 yrs) have said that maybe he just wasnt ready to come off formula and it may well be helping keep his food down where it belongs.Im not sure what it is, all i know is he sleeps better if he has it.

Jakob is 17 1/2 months and I had thought no longer needed formula. If it helps him sleep though....well i guess he needs it? Unfortunatley he wont have it in his sippy, despite doing so the first night. The other night he refused it in the sippy and had none and that was the night he woke lots again. SO last night when i went and got his sippy of milk he went and got a bottle and gave it to me and said "THIS"....................clever little monkey he is! I didnt want him back on bottles but loosing the dummy was easy so i figure when the time comes (at 2 ive decided) we can loose the bottle again easy enough.

It still really is a guessing game but i will go with whatever works!!

kirsty.
as he is bringing the btl to you (i love the "THIS") he is controlling it and therefore its a comfort item.sasha still has btls (just morning and night) and i won't be weaning them till shes 2 either.
we also had the "great the NWs are going" and then the worst nights ever.i think its a sort of regression they hit sometimes.

Kirsty, Alex still has bottles at night and in the morning.  She loves it and it's the only way that she drinks plenty of milk.  She doesn't fall asleep on it and as long as it's not a prop I think it's ok.  Nathan had his until 2-2.5 as well.

Hi all

Glad to know jakob isnt alone wanting bottles. Its funny as he never missed them when i weaned him, yet when he got one the other night he grabbed it and hugged it with all his might!! it was so cute (despite me not wanting him to have it) he hugged it like it was a long lots friend and the smile on his face said it all!!!

I dont feel bad about him having the bottle as it is what he wants,he doesnt fall asleep on it and im guessing it its just a comfort thing then thats all ok?

Last night he slept again so maybe we are just going to go back and forward for a while.Thats ok. At least it is still better than it was 3 weeks ago! ::)

Thanks for reassuring me about bottles.....at least we arent alone:)

Hi Kirsty, Theo is 16 and 1/2 months and has sippy all day, but bottle at night. I figure i don't know may 15 year olds who still drink from a bottle, so i give it to him.
Only thing is i have heard it can damage their teeth, but not sure if this is an old wives tale.

I'm not sure about the teeth, but Alex drinks her milk within 10 minutes so I don't think that it can have that much effect.  Also, I thought that milk was good for teeth and we clean them morning and night.  I will ask our dentist cousin later and let you know what she says.

i think one of the reasons HVs,Drs etc like to get them off the btls by the age of one is to do with their teeth.i think its called btl caries?
sasha drinks her milk quick and once shes finished she chucks the btl on the floor-LOL.i think its more a concern if they constantly have btls in their mouth.so sugar is always coating their teeth.
we brush sashas teeth morning and night.once shes had her btl then we brush her teeth.

Sashasmum, Yeah, us too. Ds has bottle about 6.30, before bath so we can brush teeth. He too wolfs it down in no time cos i have a number 3 teat, so its really fast flowing. I don't mind him still on bottle, keeps him nice and happy and relaxed at bed time!

Hear Hear Jo and Sasha.  If it makes them happy and so long as we are careful then I say, let them have a bottle.
