Hazel - love the shirt!! very cute.  ~ about the feeding - i woudl just give him what he will eat and not worry too much about it causing feeding problems.  olivia eats either puree or finger foods and very little in between.  the speech pathologist we had seen had warned us that this coudl happen and it did. as long as he is continuing to be offered a variety of foods and textures he will probably go back to eating that variety in time. in the meantime he is learning to exert his independence and taste preferences... Olivia throws food overboard all the time and if she does not like the looks of something she will point blank refuse to even try it - if it manages to get in her mouth she will expel it on reflex immediately - barely time fo rit to hit her tastebuds.  she has a limited diet but is eating well from that so i am trying to be happy and trust that by 1 yr we will catch up with other kids... i am ensuring she does not eat all puree by making finger foods a part of every meal(i don't worry that she will be eating purees at 15 mo because she  still eats chunks of fruit and whole pieces of pasta...)

Hazel - the T-shirt is amazing!  It looks so professional I would think you could start a business there!

Hazel - LOVE the shirt!

I think all of our LO's are into throwing temper tantrums. Must be the age? What's going to happen when they turn 2?  Leah gets very upset when I take something away from her that she wants (mind you that she is NOT suppose to have - pens, christmas lights etc.  )

Does anyone have any good ideas on what to get Leah's sitter for Christmas? I got her a gift card to Walmart, but I want to get her something personal too, but I just can't think of anything cute. Any ideas you creative mommies?

christine - have you seen the crafty christmas thread?  there are some intersting things in there

http://www.babywhisperer.com/forum/list-your-crafty-christmas-gift-ideas-here-vt43376.html

i've usually gotten a restaurant giftcard - so she can go out alone with her dh - and then some kind of bath item that i let jaina pick out.  the first year i just held a couple of bubble baths by her & watched to see which color made her smile more.   :D

Heather - Maya has huge feet.  I just bought her 18mos-3T size socks.  It doesn't matter though - she removes the first before I can get the second on.  I put shoes or slippers on her simply to keep the socks on.  As for the paci, we check them once day for weak spots and rotate them out.  I just bought some silicone ones hoping they'd be more difficult to bite through.  Makes me nervous though.

Hazel - I wouldn't worry about, he's probably just teething.  Maya eats puree and finger food, but nothing in between.  She hates texture in her puree.  We just keep offering and figure some day she'll take it.  I have had some luck with regular oatmeal.  I cook it with formula and cut it with baby oatmeal.  And she's going to get beans and rice in the food mill tonight.

Also, the t-shirt was supercute.

Christine - Bath stuff is a good idea, or maybe a nice Christmas ornament?

Us - I can't remember what I posted last, but I think it's been a while.  We went to the orthotist last Thursday.  Maya is getting a new helmet.  We'll have to go back this week to get it.  We had a ped appt on Friday.  She is up to 16lbs, 7oz, which is pretty good considering she was sick two of the four weeks since her last weight check and she has gotten more mobile.

Thanks Jaime - I did check out that thread. Great ideas!  :D Now just to find the time....

I didn't realize so many of you use pacifiers. We use ours for sleep only. I'm just curious... When do you plan on taking it away? I keep thinking it will be easier when I can just tell her I'm taking it away and she will understand (maybe when she's 10  J/K - maybe 2?)

:?: I need to do a poll, how much total sleep are your LOs getting?

Asher currently gets:
11 hrs night time
min 2 hrs, sometimes up to 3 hrs day time
13~14 hrs total sleep

I'm trying to find the right balance of day and night sleep and I'm making myself crazy.  Maybe I'm not being realistic and I'd like to compare to the averages among his age group here.

Hazel, I also think you shouldn't sweat the purees vs. finger foods.  I think it's just a phase.

Kate, I had to laugh at the luvie-hurling!    Asher does this too.  I can actually tell on the monitor at what point he chucks the luvie because he promptly screams with regret!     Silly babies!

JulieB, Emily sleeps 11-11.5hrs night and about 3 hours day, total about 14 hours.

Us, just got back from the doctor's. I got referal to a different dermatologist and an allergist both at the children's hospital in Ottawa, so hopefully they'll be good.  Apparently it'll take a year to see the dermatologist though, but just two months for the allergist.

Julieb - Daniel gets about 11.5 hours at night and about 2.5 - 3 hours in day.  Totals about 14 hours.
We too are trying to find the right balance of day and night time sleep.  It's NOT easy. If I wake him early from his naps he is then tired and more prone to tantrums in the day :?  but if I leave him to have his desired 2 hours + 2 hours in the day then we have him waking at about 5am   It's just a case of which is the better of 2 evils I reckon.

We've actually had quite a good day regards eating today.  Not much has been spat back out again.

christine - i got our sitter a gift card to Borders but she is almost 14 and i figure CDs and DVDs will please her.

Julieb - olivia currently gets 11hrs overnight + 2hr 15 - 3+ hrs naps = generally 13-14hrs total

Tarri - we finaly got a referral to a dermatologist and yesterday they gave us a slot in end january (had been March but they got a cancellation  :D ) It is harder to get into an allergust here so this is the best the GP was willing to give me - i have been asking about allergies since olivia was 6 mo old and my GP blew it off, but her skin is so bad now and seems to worsen every week so while my GP is on Xmas leave i made an appointment with the resident (it is hospital affiliated) and got the referral   to start the ball rolling (this was on the advice of the nurses at daycare who think she definitely has some allergy)

Hazel, re: Daniel's eating, once you mentioned that you have guests at home it clicked for me.  Kelsey can never eat if others are in our home or she's at their's.  She's too eager to get down and play with them.  Somehow, though, she can eat at a restaurant.

Soooo excited...I found the leather shoes in a Carter's brand at Kohl's for $9!!!!!  Then I got another discount on my whole purchase which made them even cheaper.  I love Kohl's...it should be called discount city.

Julie-I'd have to say that Kelsey averages 3 hours of day sleep and 11.5 of night.  Of course, lately she's been playing more than usuall when being put in her crib, but after a few days of doing that she makes up for it for a few days by going straight to sleep (like today  :D ).
