She is SOOOOOO close...  Yesterday when I came home, she was standing and she looked at me, let go of the table, stood for a second like she didn't know what to do, and then crouched down on the ground and crawled over.  I was like.. .but you know how to do this...  she's just not quite yet confident to do it without support.  But she walks around all the edges of the couches, goes from couch to table to chair to cat (that part doesn't work so well... the cat moves).

She is funny though.  Although yesterday was a whole banana, this morning was about a tblspn of cereal and a quarter of her banana.  Just not so interested.  Funny that...

Elliesmama,

You'll find everything you need to know about BLW in the FAQ and some ideas on starter foods in the Recipes section :D, then just pop on here with any extra questions or support with hiccups or oddities that occur!

Enjoy,

Ax

Welcome Laurie, always great to have a new BLWer on board.

Alice doesn't have any teeth yet either, and she does just fine.  One thing to say though, it does take a lot of patience and for some it doesn't happen straight away, Alice took about 3-4 weeks before she was really downing any kind of quantity.  Don't be disheartened if you think it isn't happening, it will kick in all of a sudden.

I was at a wee music group yesterday (Piccolo they have a website and sell CDs, shameless plug) and was talking to three mothers about BLW.  They'd all heard of it and were really interested.  They all said they might do a combination of puree and BLW and I said there really isn't a need to do both.  I just did BLW and she's been fine on it.  So I may have more converts.   ;D  Hurrah!!!  So next week I might bring lunch with me and feed her afterwards.  We'll see how it goes.

Alice doesn't like melon.  Oh well, she probably will in a couple of weeks.

My DD at 8 mos still has no teeth.  This did not stop her from eating a whole banana yesterday and a half a pear yesterday.  I mean... a half a freaking pear!!!  Unbelievable what you can gum down if you're motivated!
LOL! Jake ate a cookie (his first) and a half and I was worried. I guess I have nothing to worry about. He ate some raw pear and was ok! :o The baby food ones give him a bad belly. Maybe he gets less BLW. That's why you BLW huh ;D

Hi Laurie!  You can just hand her a few Cheerios (oat cereal) and a piece of cooked sweet potato and see what she does with it.  I started with a combination of purees and finger foods.  I think that is probably how many of us started and then as they've gotten older, moving to more and more finger foods.  Now that Meghan is 8 months old, she is able to handle picking up foods really well.

Hey random question I forgot to ask.

The other day, about 2 hours after dinner, I found a piece of turkey in Marina's gums.  Kind of like where you would hold your gum if you were trying not to let someone know that you have it?  (does that bring back grade school memories or what?)

Made me want to check her mouth every night.  This has happened once with turkey, and i don't know if she wanted to do it with the stemmy root of the brocoli too.
The correlation between the two is - they were both things she LOVED - they are both things that were harder to gum down.

Any one else get this and is concerned?
Alissa

The only thing Meghan does this with is paper and stickers.   ;D  I do check her mouth each night because several times I've found pieces of paper in her mouth a long time after I'd taken paper away from her, so I know she might keep it in her mouth for a couple of hours.  I'd say don't worry too much, but check her mouth before she goes to bed just to be safe.

Hi Laurie and Welcome!

Only one of my daughters has teeth - and barely. That's not what she's using to eat anyway, since it's the bottom two. They are just gumming their food to death.

Sylvie took down a persimmon today. I was surprised by how much she liked it. She mooshed the interior and spit out the skin. Inez liked it, but not like Sylvie. And since persimmons are in season I think we'll be eatingmore of those!

Hurrah for the converts, Pauline!

Lu

Jake eats paper too! ;D Emily did family albums in Kindergarten and her brother page said, "This is my brother he likes to eat paper!" :-*

What did the paper say Bryony?  Perhaps her communication skills are as far advanced as her self-feeding skills!!!  LOL.

LOL.  Hannah ate a third of the cover of my Asda toy catalogue yesterday :o  She came crawling in to me with blue saliva all round her mouth (was all the ink from the page  :-\ ) and big chunks of paper stuck to her face.  The rest of it was swallowed though.  Why is it that they like paper/card so much?  Weird.
