Possibly :-\

He hasn't pointed to anything when he's been upset, or anything. I'll ask him, but I'm not sure if he'd understand what I mean

Did someone else say something? :P ;)

 :P :P :P

Well, one night when Alex was going through her awful nightwakings, she was standing in her cot and pointing to the window.  I had pulled the roller blind but not the curtains which hid a twig like thingy (I can't explain, it sounds awful, but is quite pretty really!) She was terrified of this and when I shut the curtains shw went back to sleep.
I don't know what the troubles were every other night though, just then it was the twig.

God, I am so bad at this, no wonder I am no longer moderator of this board.  :-[

We have this on and off with Sasha.she usually says "scared mummy".we ask her to tell us what she is scared off and she'll usually point to whatever the "offending" item is.Last time it was a dream catcher (sort of feathery mobile!!) that was hanging from her light.so i just asked if she wanted mummy to take it down etc.
we also found keeping her door open helped her to go to sleep as she was able to hear us downstairs as well.should mention she has a stair gate in front of her door!!

No ideas, just  :-* for Charlie and Mummy!!!

I think you've gotten some good advice.  I bet leaving your door open will help.  Might hamper any fun with dh, though.   :P

Caroline,
Along the same lines as the toy protecting him...could you tell him that when you were little you used to be frightened as well and tell him something you did.   :-\   Dh's mom told him when he was little that if he was having a bad dream or scared at night all he had to do was move his foot back and forth and the bad dream would go away.

 :P :D Steffi

Not too good, sadly. I got him a nightlight, which I think he likes, so we're going to keep using it, but he's still needing me to sit with him to fall asleep. GW has been sucessful, in that I only need to be sitting on my bed (he can see it from his cot), rather than on the floor next to him (easier on the bum ;)), but we've stalled in that he gets histerical if I try to close the door - so I still have to sit there while he goes to sleep, and it's taking up to 9pm b/c he's so unsettled. Not like him at all.

I know we have overtired issues, but I'm at a loss :(

Thank you both for asking :-*
Caroline :)

Is it alright if he sees you lying down in your bed?

The overtired issue... in my experience at that age it can only be beaten if he, when he wakes up sees the same thing than when he went to sleep, so I wouldn't try and close the door yet.

When are his NW? When you're asleep, too?

So you think I should just leave the door open?

It's just so frustrating that he used to be quite happy about me going downstairs before he was asleep, but now I'm not allowed to move.

Nws are happening early hours of the morning - 1 or 2 am

Leave it open just now...

I know  :-\

I'd stay in your bed (lying down) until he is fast asleep, then get up, get your butt on here or wherever you're happy at night and make sure you're in bed by 1am  ;)

It will change again, promise, it's just a phase  :-*

Where is his bed?  Can he see your room from where he is?  If not, see how he is if you move it.

I haven't closed Alex's door since I did the sleep training, she can see onto the landing and she is happy with that, sometimes, before she goes to sleep, she calls me.  I can usually get away with calling back to her up the stairs bt sometimes it takes a journey upstairs, she sees me and then lays down.

Just for the record, Nathan doesn't like his door shut either. And he's 6.  ::)

I would leave it open too.
